First Tee’s streamlined bookkeeping allows for improved operations and more time on the green

First Tee is a nonprofit organization that empowers kids and teens through the game of golf. First Tee — San Francisco wanted to accelerate its financial operations and reporting. To further modernize processes, the solution was integrated with Ramp, a corporate card and expense management solution that streamlines spend management. Interview with

Dan Burke

CEO

First Tee — San Francisco

What sparked the need for change?

“We had a fragmented approach to spend management that led to inefficient, time-intensive bookkeeping. We relied on multiple banking institutions, and our lead bank did not offer traditional credit cards. That was a logistical and bookkeeping pain. As our chapter grew, the need to improve our accounting practices became evident. It was clear we needed either to expand our internal accounting resources or to work with an external entity to improve our daily accounting. That’s when we turned to PwC.”

What solution did the teams unlock by working together?

“PwC’s experience helped guide us to the right tailored solutions, including Bookkeeping Connect, a PwC product to meet our specific needs. Through PwC, we discovered Ramp’s corporate card and expense management offerings, then created a centralized, integrated platform that helped simplify bookkeeping and increased transparency. Now we have access to reliable, timely data that paints a clear picture of our financial health. Knowing our books are up to date, we can positively make decisions based on real-time data and close at the same time month after month.”

Where did tech innovation meet human ingenuity?

“Bookkeeping Connect was a game-changer, centralizing everything within one platform to be tracked and adjusted as needed. This blend of technology and human knowledge has reimagined our bookkeeping, freeing us to focus on growth. PwC’s help in managing our daily accounting tasks allows us to dedicate more time to expanding our donor base and to our mission.”

What was the real-world impact of approaching things differently?

“Nonprofits are a hyper-competitive market for donor dollars. You can’t make mistakes. Financial or compliance issues can be detrimental. Bookkeeping Connect and Ramp have added guardrails that give our organization –– and, by extension, First Tee donors –– peace of mind. When you’re efficient at managing your organization to the highest level, that’s a good return on investment for the donors. The benefits of using Bookkeeping Connect extend beyond organizational efficiency. For us, it helps diligently apply donor investments to make as much of a positive impact as possible.”
