David is an International tax partner focused on asset managers, their portfolio companies, and LPs investing into the funds including tax exempt institutions. In his role, he advises funds, endowments, and investors on how to structure their global investments. He currently works with a number of clients in assisting with international strategies, structure maintenance and risk reviews, compliance, and the appropriate tax accounting for the investments. He helps clients in areas such as determining the most efficient investment structure, acquisition structure, fund structure and management company structure. This advice includes helping managers understand the needs of their LPs during the fund-raising process. Recently, addressing loan origination issues as some managers provide a more credit focused strategy has been an important portion of David’s practice. In advising on the structures for the investors and their portfolio companies foreign tax reduction, tax treaties, transaction taxes, capital gains taxes and cash repatriation and redeployment, ongoing compliance and maintenance are all considered. In addition to dealing with the tax ramifications, David has assisted clients in understanding the costs and future viability of maintaining international investment structures once they are organized, including ongoing maintenance, compliance, tax accounting and the structures long term viability in a changing global tax environment. In completing the investor reporting, significant focus is placed on process and technology efficiencies while ensuring timely and accurate technical reporting. He meets regularly with his clients to keep them abreast of tax law developments in the world that could impact existing investment structures or future investments.
Education and Credentials: David holds a undergraduate degree in accounting from William and Mary, a Masters of Tax from the University of Denver, and a doctorate from the University of Florida. He is a licensed CPA in the states of Virginia and Colorado.
