Operational technology (OT) security protects industrial systems, critical infrastructure and operations from evolving cyber threats and disruption. PwC’s expertise helps organizations manage operational risk, modernize critical systems and build resilient, secure operations through strategy, transformation, and managed security services.

OT Assessment and Strategy

PwC helps organizations strengthen operational technology (OT) and product security through comprehensive assessments, strategic planning and program transformation tailored to complex industrial environments and evolving cyber risks.

As threats, regulatory requirements and IT/OT convergence increase, we collaborate with clients to assess OT and product security risks, identify control and compliance gaps, and develop prioritized transformation roadmaps. Our capabilities include OT strategy and program transformation; OT and product security assessments; OT controls profile and catalog development; OT governance target operating model design; OT risk management programs; and product security program development. PwC also conducts compliance assessments and supports OT certification preparation, including IEC 62443 readiness, by evaluating gaps, defining remediation plans and organizing evidence. Through industry experience and risk-informed insights, PwC helps clients establish effective governance, improve compliance, secure connected products and build resilient industrial operations.

OT Architecture

Ransomware, nation-state actors, supply chain compromise, insecure remote access and IT/OT convergence continue to increase the risk of operational disruption. PwC helps organizations protect industrial systems and critical infrastructure against disruption, through secure architecture, network segmentation, identity and access management, and resilience by design.

PwC designs segmented OT networks based on the Purdue Model, with defined zones, conduits and trust boundaries separating enterprise IT, industrial control systems, safety systems and external connections. Combined with secure remote access, monitoring, identity controls and other layered safeguards, this architecture strengthens defense in depth, helps contain threats, and protects critical operations.

PwC also helps clients assess, strengthen and demonstrate resilience across individual sites and wider manufacturing environments. We design resilience into OT architecture so critical processes can continue safely when systems, networks, or facilities are disrupted. This includes fault-tolerant networks, redundant systems, isolated recovery paths, and protected backup infrastructure. Architecture patterns address degraded operating modes, site and system dependencies, failover capabilities, and separation between production and recovery environments. These measures reduce single points of failure, limit incident impact, and support the safe restoration of operations.

OT Engineering

Growing connectivity, legacy systems and gaps in asset visibility make OT environments difficult to secure at scale. PwC engineers, configures and deploys OT security technologies across individual sites and enterprise fleets. Our capabilities cover asset visibility, network segmentation, identity and access management (IAM), and SIEM/SOC implementation.

PwC implements asset visibility and monitoring capabilities using leading OT security platforms. These tools discover and classify assets, map communications, identify vulnerabilities, and detect suspicious activity. We configure each platform for industrial environments and integrate it with key upstream and downstream technologies, improving asset inventories, incident context, vulnerability tracking, change, and response workflows.

PwC also engineers OT identity and access management, including role-based access, privileged access controls and secure remote access. This, paired with our network segmentation services, translates secure architecture into a risk-reducing reality for critical infrastructure and industrial environments.

OT SIEM implementation provides centralized monitoring and detection across sites. Repeatable deployment methods, site-level visibility, and standardized configurations support scalable rollouts while accounting for production requirements.

Together, these capabilities improve visibility, limit unauthorized access, strengthen threat detection, and support reliable industrial operations.

OT Managed Services

PwC provides OT managed services that support continuous monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management across industrial environments. We integrate OT security data and platforms with enterprise SIEM and SOC operations, giving analysts the asset and process context needed to assess alerts and coordinate with site teams.

Our threat detection and response service identifies suspicious activity, triages alerts and supports escalation and containment. OT-specific SOC and SIEM playbooks guide response to scenarios such as ransomware, unauthorized remote access and engineering workstation compromise. Vulnerability management prioritizes exposures based on asset criticality, exploitability and operational impact, with remediation aligned to maintenance windows and production needs.
