Investor Daily - Stasiun Whoosh Karawang tingkatkan ekonomi daerah

30 December 2024

Jakarta, ID – Yayat Supriatna, an infrastructure expert from Universitas Trisakti, stated that the operation of Karawang Whoosh Station is expected to invigorate the local economy. He noted that mass transportation in a region tends to enliven the area.

“This is what the people have been waiting for. There are not many stations that the Whoosh high-speed railway passes through, so this presents an opportunity for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region,” he told Investor Daily on Friday (27/12/2024).

Yayat added that the operation of the station to enliven the region is expected to be supported by the local government through the empowerment of MSMEs.

“Yes, MSMEs should be supported by the government so that they can operate safely. This also benefits the local government,” Yayat added.

Karawang Whoosh Station has been officially open since Tuesday (24/12/2024) as part of efforts to optimise Whoosh's service. This operation marks an important step in providing broad accessibility for the public, especially with the approach of the Christmas and New Year holidays, which are expected to significantly increase passenger mobility.

KCIC has introduced a dynamic tariff scheme for journeys to and from Karawang Whoosh Station. The fare for the Halim-Karawang route starts at Rp125,000 for Premium Economy class. Meanwhile, the fare for the Karawang-Padalarang/Tegalluar Summarecon route starts at Rp175,000 for Premium Economy class.

The inauguration of Karawang Whoosh Station was attended by several notable figures, including Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Chinese Ambassador Wang Lutong, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwaghandi, State-owned Enterprises Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Public Works and Housing Deputy Minister Diana Kusumastuti, Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency Deputy Minister Ossy Dermawan, and KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi.

Coordinating Minister AHY stated that Karawang Whoosh Station could increase passenger numbers and facilitate transportation between Jakarta and Bandung.

“Karawang Whoosh Station is expected to boost the number of high-speed railway passengers travelling between Jakarta and Bandung. Hopefully, it will also enhance public welfare and spur economic growth, not just in Karawang but nationally as well,” Coordinating Minister AHY mentioned.

KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi stated that Whoosh has so far served seven million passengers since it first began operations, with an average of 20,000 passengers per day in December 2024. With the operation of Karawang Whoosh Station, the number of passengers is expected to increase further.

“With immense gratitude, today we are inaugurating Karawang Whoosh Station to optimise the Whoosh high-speed railway service, particularly during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. The station is expected not only to facilitate the mobility of workers and residents but also to serve as a major opportunity for economic growth in Karawang,” Dwiyana added.

In the initial phase, Karawang Whoosh Station will accommodate 20 trips, comprising 10 departures from Halim Whoosh Station and 10 departures from Tegalluar Summarecon Whoosh Station in Padalarang. With Whoosh, the Halim-Karawang route can be covered in 15 minutes, while the Karawang-Padalarang route takes 20 minutes.

To access Karawang Station, passengers using private vehicles can take Jl. Badami and then enter Jl. Pasar Jati and Jl. Raya Pangkalan. Alternatively, those in smaller vehicles can use Jl. Trans Hexa Karawang to reach Jl. Raya Pangkalan. Karawang Whoosh Station is also accessible from the toll road via the West Karawang Toll Road Exit at KM 47 on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll segment, leading to Jl. Trans Heksa Karawang.
