PwC managing director, founder of former Ray Group International and Medal of Honor recipient among Top 25 Consultants for 2013
NEW YORK, May 7, 2013 – PwC US today announced that Ronald E. Ray, a managing director in PwC’s Public Sector practice with a long career in the public sector was chosen by Consulting magazine in its annual list of “Top 25 Consultants” in the category of “Excellence in Public Sector.” Founder of the former Ray Group International (RGI), a consulting firm acquired by PwC in November, 2012, Ray has significant experience working with federal agencies to help deliver sustainable, innovative solutions in government healthcare. Prior to founding RGI, Ray had a distinguished military career, serving 20 years of active duty and receiving multiple military awards, including the highest military decoration – The Medal of Honor – for his heroic actions.
According to Dana Mcilwain, PwC Vice Chairman and U.S. Advisory Leader, “Ron truly exemplifies all that this award represents. He is the definition of ‘excellence in consulting’ and we are very proud to have him on our PwC team.”
Scott McIntyre, PwC’s U.S. and Global Public Sector Leader, added, “Ron sets the bar for outstanding client service. When you couple his knowledge of the Public Sector, particularly Veterans Affairs, with the deep level of integrity he demonstrates every day with our clients, partners and staff, you have a consultant who is unmatched. We congratulate Ron on receiving this recognition and highly value the contribution he is making to PwC and our clients.”
The steps that led Ray to a career in consulting began during his years of active military duty. In 1970, President Richard Nixon presented Ray with The Medal of Honor for his heroic actions when he used his body to shield two of his men from a grenade blast while under enemy fire. He has also been recognized with the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.
Ray later served as special assistant to the Secretary of Commerce from 1974 to 1975 and as the Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration in the Department of Veterans Affairs from 1989 to 1993. In 2008, Ray founded RGI, a service-disabled veteran-owned business (SDVOB). Four years later, he joined PwC when the firm acquired RGI.
“Joining PwC has allowed me to further develop my passion for serving my country, and my particular focus on helping our veterans with government health care solutions,” said Ray. “The culture of caring and commitment at PwC aligns with my own philosophy of always surrounding yourself with people who want you to succeed. I am honored to be receiving this award from Consulting magazine and look forward to continuing to work together with my PwC colleagues to support the Public Sector and our country’s veterans.”
Ray holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Tampa. He is the former president and current member of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. He is also a member of the White House Fellows Association, Omicron Delta Kappa, Legion of Valor, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
