Bisnis, ID – President-elect Prabowo Subianto must continue the construction of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road during his first term in office to ensure connectivity on the island.
Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the construction of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road would be accelerated at the start of Prabowo Subianto's administration. The masterplan for the toll road construction has already been delivered to the transition team.
“The first priority is to connect the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road in the first five years [of Prabowo’s administration]. This [is the proposed masterplan] for connectivity. We have recommended it,” he said last weekend.
The Trans-Sumatra Toll Road is one of the infrastructure megaprojects initiated by President Joko Widodo. Furthermore, as his administration nears its end, President Joko Widodo will still inaugurate two completed segments of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road, namely the Tempino-Jambi and Kisaran segments.
Currently, Basuki has mentioned that the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry has prepared a master plan for connectivity development, which will be continued by President-elect Prabowo. In this document, his agency has outlined a plan to construct 2,300 kilometres of new toll roads.
PUPR Ministry Spokesperson Endra S. Atmawidjaja explained that the proposal to construct 2,300 kilometres of new toll roads is estimated to require an investment of around Rp460 trillion.
“For 2,300 kilometres, with an assumption of Rp200 billion per kilometre on average, around Rp460 trillion will be required for the entire stretch,” he explained.
In detail, Endra explained that the construction of 2,300 kilometres of new toll roads would include the completion of several segments of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road and the procurement of toll roads in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
However, Endra explained that the proposed masterplan would be fully handed over to the new government. Its final execution will be determined after 20 October 2024.
