Jakarta, ID – The Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with Japan, is continuously strengthening and enhancing their cooperation in the transportation sector to support public accessibility.
"We hope to make our cooperation with Japan more intensive," said Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi during his meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasushi Masaki, in Jakarta on Wednesday (4/12/2024).
According to the Transportation Minister, Japan has made significant contributions to various transportation projects, including the development of railway systems, human resources and training programmes, as well as knowledge transfers in the technology sector.
The Transportation Minister explained that the cooperation between Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation and Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) is being strengthened through the signing of a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) in the transportation sector on 19 January 2024.
He hopes that cooperation with Japan will become more intensive, particularly in the development of the Jakarta MRT project, Patimban Port, and the Bekasi Proving Ground.
Regarding the Jakarta MRT project, the Transportation Minister hopes that, with support from the Japanese Ambassador, the project can proceed smoothly and as planned, enhancing connectivity in Greater Jakarta.
"I hope that, with support from the Japanese Ambassador, the Jakarta MRT project can progress smoothly and meet the targets we have agreed on. In addition to the MRT development, I also hope that connectivity in Greater Jakarta can be enhanced through the integration of the main route with feeder services," the Transportation Minister said.
In addition to infrastructure projects, the Transportation Minister also highlighted the potential for future cooperation between the two countries in developing human resources in transportation through collaborative internship programmes.
The collaboration includes the exchange of students and teachers from schools or polytechnics under the Ministry of Transportation, as well as visits from guest lecturers from Japan in the transportation sector.
"This is intended to provide international experience that can enhance their expertise and broaden their perspective in the transportation sector," the Transportation Minister stated.
Meanwhile, Statistics Indonesia logged that the number of passengers on Jakarta MRT, Jakarta LRT, and TransJakarta increased more than 5% in October 2024 compared to September.
