Jakarta, ID - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has committed to continuing the development of transportation connectivity to support the realisation of the Asta Cita vision, meaning eight goals, proposed by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
The 2016-2024 Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, handed over his position to the 2024-2029 Transportation Minister, Dudy Purwagandhi, at the Transportation Ministry building in Central Jakarta on Monday (21/10).
During the occasion, Transportation Minister Dudy expressed his appreciation for the hard work, dedication, and contributions of Budi Karya as the Transportation Minister from 2016 to 2024, as well as his staff.
During that period, many achievements were realised by the Transportation Ministry, including an 89% satisfaction rate for homecoming activities during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Flight Information Region (FIR) agreement with Singapore, and a Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) score of 88.52%, which surpasses the global average, among other accomplishments.
“These achievements are closely related to the extraordinary and successful synergy, collaboration, and transformation within the Transportation Ministry. Various initiatives and programmes, including ongoing ones, will be continued and improved to realise the Asta Cita vision and achieve the 2045 Golden Indonesia goal,” Transportation Minister Dudy said in his press statement, cited on Monday (21/10/2024).
Transportation Minister Dudy is encouraging all staff within the Transportation Ministry to be enthusiastic in continuing the administration, developing connectivity through transportation, improving safety, and enhancing transportation services.
Meanwhile, Budi Karya welcomed Transportation Minister Dudy and encouraged all parties to fully support the new administration of the Transportation Ministry.
“I believe you will bring greater advancements to the Transportation Ministry. This ministry needs tight synergy and collaboration to continuously enhance its services for the people, improve infrastructure, and develop transportation to be more efficient and eco-friendly,” Budi Karya stated.
Budi Karya also expressed his appreciation to all staff of the Transportation Ministry for their dedication and commitment to implementing excellent governance in the transportation sector.
Furthermore, Budi Karya hopes that the vision and mission of the new government will be implemented by the new Transportation Minister and fully supported by all staff.
“Let us face future challenges with a renewed spirit and a strong commitment. Together, we can realise a better and more sustainable transportation sector,” he added.
Business background
Before being appointed as the Transportation Minister in the Red and White Cabinet for 2024-2029, Dudy Purwagandhi served as the Commissioner of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) (Persero). Born in Manado on 23 September 1970, he has extensive business experience.
A graduate from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Trisakti in 1995, he previously served as the Director of Seacons Trading Limited, a company based in Singapore.
Dudy also served as a special staff member to the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform. In 2019, he became active in politics and was the Deputy
Treasurer of the National Campaign Team of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition.
His experience in the business sector includes serving as the Commissioner of PT Satui Terminal Utama and the Director of PT Dua Samudera Perkasa, companies that engage in transportation and logistics.
Dudy was also active in Jhonlin Group, specifically with PT Jhonlin Marine Trans, which engages in maritime transportation, and PT Jhonlin Air Transport, a regional airline in Indonesia.
Jhonlin Marine Trans operates in the maritime transportation sector, transporting cargo such as iron ore and coal. Meanwhile, Jhonlin Air Transport focuses on providing flights to remote areas in South Kalimantan.
Dudy's professional career extends further. He also served as an internal auditor at PT Dua Samudera Perkasa and as the Department Head of General Affairs at PT Tri Usaha Bakti.
Facing several challenges
Meanwhile, Djoko Setijowarno, a transportation observer from Unika Soegijapranata in Semarang, stated that the Prabowo-Gibran administration must view the transportation sector as a basic necessity, akin to food, clothing, housing, education, and healthcare.
“Transportation, as a derived need, will determine the advancement of a region, which will ultimately affect public welfare. This is significant in supporting the 2045 Golden Indonesia programme,” Djoko told Investor Daily.
Currently, there are several tasks for Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi to address. For example, in the air transportation sector, airfares remain expensive. Additionally, the massive airport development has yet to be optimised in terms of functionality.
“For instance, Ngloram Airport in Blora, Jenderal Besar Sudirman Airport in Purbalingga, Wiridinata Airport in Tasikmalaya, and Kertajati Airport in Majalengka are tasks that the next government needs to address,” he added.
Djoko added that Transportation Minister Dudy must be able to meet the targets for the maritime highway. Out of the target of 229 pioneer ships, only 103 have been realised.
Meanwhile, out of the target of 113 pioneer shipping routes, only 107 have been realised.
“Feeder maritime highway ships are still required to connect small islands in the provinces of Maluku, North Maluku, and Southwest Papua,” he explained.
Djoko noted that another challenge is the cargo transportation subsidy needed to connect the maritime highway and the air bridge, which is still required to keep the prices of goods affordable in remote areas. Currently, the cargo transportation subsidy has only been provided for six provinces outside Java.
“A challenge in establishing additional routes that receive the cargo transportation subsidy is that many roads in the regions are severely damaged, with around 40% in poor condition. The Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads must be accelerated, and regional governments must allocate funds for road construction in their areas,” he added.
