14 October 2024
Jakarta, ID – The government, through the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry, is continuously accelerating the completion of Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), which will connect Lampung to Aceh.
Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Head Miftachul Munir stated that the construction of the Palembang-Betung toll road, spanning 69.19 kilometres (km) and part of the Kayu Agung-
Palembang-Betung (Kapal Betung) toll road, is currently being completed. This toll segment is operated by PT Hutama Karya (Persero).
“The project, which has an investment value of Rp14.981 trillion, will connect Palembang City to Betung, reducing travel time from 3.5 hours to just 1 hour. It is set to be completed by the end of 2025,” Miftachul said in his press statement, cited on Friday (11/10/2024).
The Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road will later span 111.6 km and be connected to the Betung-Tempino-Jambi segment, which is a crucial part of the JTTS network. “This is also an opportunity to establish new connectivity from Palembang to Jambi, strengthening the transportation network and encouraging economic growth in Sumatra,” he explained.
The Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road, located in South Sumatra Province, has sections 1 and 2A operational, spanning 42.5 km from Kayu Agung to Kramasan. The next segments currently under construction are the Kramasan-S. Rengas segment, spanning 21.50 km with progress at 74.53%, the S. Rengas-P. Balai segment, spanning 33 km with progress at 75.64%, and the P. Balai-Betung segment, spanning 14.69 km with progress at 0.05%.
Meanwhile, Hutama Karya Corporate Secretary Executive Vice President (EVP) Adjib Al Hakim explained that the toll segment would be one of the main routes connecting economic and industrial areas, as well as Bakauheni Port in Lampung. It will also be connected to the Betung-Tempino-Jambi segment, which is showing significant progress in its construction.
As of September 2024, the Betung (Sekayu Interchange)-Tempino-Jambi toll road section 1A (Betung-Supat, Musi Banyuasin) spans 30.80 km, with construction progress reaching 6.34% and land procurement progress at 19.88%.
Regarding section 3 (Bayung Lencir-Tempino Package 3 (Construction Support) Bayung Lencir Interchange-Tempino Interchange), which spans 15.47 km and is constructed by the
Hutama Karya-WIKA-Abipraya joint venture, it has been 100% completed and is ready to operate. Meanwhile, section 4 (Tempino-Ness Interchange), spanning 18.49 km, has a construction progress of 31.81% and land procurement progress at 99.53%.
“Once completed, JTTS will be fully connected from Lampung to Jambi. We believe the Palembang-Betung toll road will not only facilitate the distribution of goods and services but will also significantly impact regional economic development. We hope the toll road can provide continuous benefits and support the development of industries and tourism in South Sumatra,” Adjib stated.
