Jakarta — The government will officiate 13 new toll segments until the end of 2018 with a total length of up to 473.9 kilometres (km). With this, the total length of operating toll roads from 2015 – 2018 will be 942 km.

Previously, operating toll road length increased by 332 km in the past three years (2015 – 2017). Meanwhile, from January – September 2018, the length of operating toll roads was 136.1 km. Next, from October to December 2018, 13 new toll segments with a total length of 473.9 km are set to begin operation.

Public Works and People’s Housing (PUPR) Minister said his agency continues to push the completion of new toll segments in many areas. The massive toll construction aims to improve inter-region connectivity to reduce logistics cost and improve competitiveness.

“Through PPP scheme, the government aims to narrow infrastructure financial gap, especially toll roads to meet completion deadline, so [the projects] can bring concrete benefits to the nation and its people,” said Basuki in his official statement in Jakarta, Sunday (14/10).

In detail, based on data from Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) in the PUPR Ministry, in October 2018 there are four new toll segments spanning for 109 km which are ready for operation, namely Pejagan – Pemalang toll segment section 3 and 4 (37.3 km) and Sewaka – Pemalang Interchange  (5.4 km) in Pemalang – Batang toll road, Sragen Interchange – Ngawi (50.9 km) in Solo – Ngawi toll road and Ciawi – Cigombong (15.4 km) in Ciawi – Sukabumi toll road section 1.

In November 2018, two new segments are scheduled for operation, namely Pemalang Interchange – Batang (33.8 km) in Pemalang – Batang toll road section I and II and Salatiga – Kartasura (32.5 km) in Semarang – Solo toll segment.

Then, in December 2018, as many as seven toll segments with a total length of 292.8 km will be ready for operation. The seven toll segments are part of Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra toll segments. Those toll roads are Batang – Semarang toll road section 1 – 5 (75 km), Wilangan – Kertosono segment (39.1 km) in Ngawi – Kertosono toll road which is financed by the state budget, Kertosono – Mojokerto toll road section 4 (0.9 km).

Then, there are Porong – Gempol toll segment relocation (Porong – Kejapanan) spanning for 6.3 km, Pasuruan – Grati segment (12.2 km) in Gempol – Pasuruan toll road section 3, Grati – East Probolinggo (32.4 km) in Pasuruan –Probolinggo toll road section 1 – 3, and Bakauheni – Terbanggi Besar toll road package 1 – 4 spanning for 126.9 km.

Previously, Head of Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Herry Trisaputra Zuna expressed national toll road construction still continues and is accelerated.  “To date, toll road construction remains on the track,” he said.

BPJT Head of General Division, Mahbullah Nurdin, added that toll road construction in Indonesia is still on the track, especially Trans-Java toll network. Even, until the end of this year, there are some toll segments that will soon begin operation.

The operation can be carried out, following that some toll roads have completed the feasibility study. Once they have passed the commissioning test, those toll roads can start operation soon after obtaining a decision letter from the PUPR Minister.

“Among them are Pejagan – Pemalang toll road section III and IV, Pemalang – Batang toll road, Batang –Semarang, and Sragen – Ngawi,” he said.

Elevated Japek 2 Toll Road

Meanwhile, the construction of Elevated Jakarta – Cikampek 2 toll road which aims to dissolve congestion on the toll road has now reached 49.4% completion. Spanning for 38 km from Cikunir Interchange to Karawang, the segment is set to be completed by the end of March 2019.

Basuki mentioned that Elevated Japek 2 Toll Road will split between long-distance and short-distance toll users. Drivers who travel a long distance can take Japek 2 toll road and exit at the end of the elevated toll road, thus dissolving congestion and cutting travel time, both for vehicles heading for industrial estates in Karawang or Cibitung and those travelling to Cikampek – Semarang and Padalarang – Bandung.

“The construction of this segment is a part of Trans-Java toll road construction which will have been connected by the end of 2018. The existence of this toll road will definitely smooth people and goods movement, trim down logistics cost and delivery time, thus more efficient,” explained Basuki.

This toll road is an unsolicited project with PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek holding the concession right with a construction cost of Rp13.53 trillion.

“I urge the consultants and constructors to obey the occupational health and safety SOP, and be discipline during work. Don’t slack off and don’t overlook things that may pose accident risks, so we can achieve zero accident,” he said.
