Investor Daily - Kementerian PU akselerasi visi Presiden lewat quick wins infrastruktur
11 November 2024
Jakarta, ID – The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is fast-tracking the vision of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka through quick wins. PU Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that these quick wins, for President Prabowo's main programmes, involved two key aspects. Firstly, supporting food sustainability. Secondly, ensuring compulsory 13-year education by constructing and renovating schools across all regions of Indonesia.
Food sustainability will be supported through the construction of reservoirs, the rehabilitation of irrigation networks, and the development of roads and bridges to enhance food connectivity.
“Support for food sustainability will be provided through the construction and inauguration of dams and reservoirs, the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation networks, and the development of roads and bridges to enhance connectivity to food centres. This includes the food estates in Central Kalimantan, Merauke in South Papua, West Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and other eastern regions,” Minister Dody said in Jakarta last weekend in Jakarta (Saturday/11/2024).
Meanwhile, for the 13-year education programme, Minister Hanggodo is focusing on the renovation and construction of schools. "For the compulsory 13-year education programme, we are targeting the construction and renovation of 11,420 schools, ranging from kindergarten to high school levels," he revealed.
Quick wins will also support the strategic flagship programmes of other ministries and institutions through physical construction. These include the Giant Sea Wall/National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD), Nusantara Capital City (IKN), connectivity (roads and bridges), community markets, drinking water, sanitation/wastewater management, waste management, sports facilities, health facilities, and area development (tourism, industrial, and refugee areas).
The PU Ministry is currently preparing infrastructure programmes for the fiscal year 2026, in line with the directives of the President, by prioritising the Asta Cita principle. The first focus of the Asta Cita principle is food sustainability and regional equity.
Secondly, to optimise existing infrastructure to benefit the people. Thirdly, to strengthen cooperation among ministries and regional governments to achieve the national development targets in the infrastructure sector.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPIW), Yudha Mediawan, stated that the preparation of infrastructure programmes and activities for the fiscal year 2026 demonstrates the serious commitment of the PU Ministry to constructing and developing regions based on input from the relevant provinces.
“We will verify and validate the preparedness of priority regions and their programme requirements,” he added.
Strengthening inter-island connectivity.
Meanwhile, the Sea Transportation Directorate General of the Ministry of Transportation will strengthen inter-island connectivity to support the national meat sustainability programme and contribute to the realisation of the Advanced Indonesia vision.
Sea Traffic and Transportation Director Hartanto stated that the Sea Transportation Directorate General is currently developing an optimal strategy to support the effective and efficient distribution of cattle.
“We have received input from various relevant stakeholders. With support from relevant ministries and institutions, we aim to ensure that cattle ships can operate according to the established route network to provide optimal public service,” Hartanto said in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday (10/11/2024).
Hartanto emphasised the important role of cattle ships in stabilising the meat supply throughout Indonesia. The cattle transportation programme has grown since 2025, expanding from one ship to six ships.
“This programme was initiated with KM. Camara Nusantara 1 in 2015, which carried 353 cattle. However, thanks to our hard work and commitment, by 2023, cattle transportation had increased significantly to 31,321 cattle. Moreover, as of October 2024, the number of cattle transported has reached 36,740,” he explained.
However, Hartanto admits that there are still issues that must be addressed, such as the long waiting times at ports, which impact ship productivity.
“Currently, the waiting times at ports range from eight to ten days due to cargo assignments that do not align with the set shipping schedule. This causes ships to miss their annual voyage targets. In the future, we hope all relevant institutions and operators can commit to the departure schedule to increase productivity,” he added.
Cattle ship policy
Meanwhile, the Head of the Domestic Sea Transportation Sub-Directorate, Capt. Hasan Sadili, stated that the cattle ship transportation policy for 2025 aims to enhance inter-island accessibility to facilitate the distribution of cattle from producing regions to consuming regions.
The purpose is to emphasise the importance of implementing a suitable route network for cattle transportation in the fiscal year 2025, which will serve as the foundation for ship operations in the future.
“We are establishing the set route network to meet the needs of the people by considering fleet availability and the potential cattle cargo from producing regions to consuming regions. The decisions made at this meeting will make cattle distribution more efficient,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Djoko Setijowarno, a transportation observer from Unika Soegijapranata in Semarang, stated that the PU Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation are currently still adjusting their work programmes to align with the vision of President Prabowo.
He hopes that, through these ministries, the government can get straight to work, as the infrastructure projects developed by the PU Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation are more than just physical construction.
“The Ministry of Transportation has received a substantial budget that must be utilised. It is the people who will benefit from the subsidy,” he said to Investor Daily.
He added that the PU Ministry would focus on sustaining and supporting food sustainability. However, basic infrastructure is also essential. On the other hand, the Ministry of Transportation is expected to reduce traffic accidents through its various safety dissemination programmes.
“Hopefully, not only physical infrastructure will be constructed, as the budget is more or less the same as in previous years. Dissemination and subsidies are still needed to provide road and public transportation infrastructure, especially in remote regions of Indonesia,” he added.
