Bisnis, Jakarta – The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) will request Norinco International Cooperation Ltd to return the autonomous rail rapid transit (ART) trainsets to China, as the autonomous system is not functioning properly.
OIKN Green Transformation and Digital Affairs Deputy Ali Berawi explained that this decision was based on the evaluation of the proof of concept (PoC) of the ART in IKN.
The evaluation highlighted four main points: quality and technological reliability, system interoperability, financial value, and the optimality of the technology transfer process.
"The result of the PoC evaluation found that the autonomous system of the tram is not yet functioning properly," he said to Bisnis on Thursday (14/11).
In line with the discussions between OIKN and various ministries and institutions, as outlined in Presidential Instruction Number 2/2024, OIKN was responsible for implementing and evaluating the PoC. Following this, the process will be handed over to the Transportation Ministry for showcasing.
After the evaluation was deemed unsatisfactory, OIKN will instruct Norinco to return the trainsets from IKN to China.
However, Ali affirmed that OIKN remains open to the possibility of cooperating with Norinco again as the initiating business entity to implement a PoC for the ART in the future.
He believes that the utilisation of ART in IKN aligns with the vision of IKN to be an emission-free green city.
"As an eco-friendly modern public transportation option, ART is suitable for IKN. However, the technology of the ART prototypes in IKN needs to be improved," he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Railways Director General of the Transportation Ministry, Risal Wasal, explained that the ART trainsets will not be returned to China.
He hopes that the OIKN’s evaluation can be improved.
"They are not [being returned to China]. Not yet. We still need them," Risal told the media.
