15 November 2019

Jakarta – The Indonesian Government will soon deal two agreements in the air transportation sector at the 25th Asean Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam that is held on Thursday (14/11).

“The two agreements are planned to be signed at the 25th ATM Meeting on Friday, 15 November 2019,” Transportation Minister Secretary General Djoko Sasono said yesterday in his official statement when he attended the 25th ATM Meeting representing the Transportation Minister as the chairman of the delegation of Indonesia.

The first agreement that will be signed is the Protocol to Implement the Eleventh Package of Commitments on Air Transport Services Under the Asean Framework Agreement on Services. Meanwhile, the second agreement is Protocol 3 on Expansion of Fifth Freedom Traffic between ASEAN and China of the ASEAN-China Air Transport Agreement.

“The two agreements have been issued with full power under the Government of Indonesia from the Foreign Affairs Minister to the Transportation Ministry Secretary General to sign the two agreements,” Djoko said.

Furthermore, cooperation in the transportation sector among Asean countries has been implemented to promote trade and improve connectivity in Asean regions.

“There are several initiatives, proposals, and mechanisms in the transportation sector of Asean regions, namely Asean Single Aviation, Asean Open Skies Agreement that is promoted to improve air transportation connectivity and passenger services and cargo among Asean countries, and Green Ship Strategy that is also boosted,” Djoko said.

Meanwhile, at the 25th ATM Meeting, there is also a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Vietnam that will discuss air connectivity between Indonesia and Vietnam. The bilateral meeting is planned to discuss slot times for national airlines to carry out flights to and from Vietnam.

“We will also ask for support to fulfil the lack of pilots in the two countries, especially fresh graduate pilots, as both countries are ICAO members,” Djoko said.
