Jakarta – PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I officially commences full operation of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) yesterday (Sunday (20/3). On the first day of full operation of the airport, flights went smoothly.

AP I President Director Faik Fahmi revealed that YIA’s first day of full operation went smoothly, with the inaugural flight carried out by Batik Air ID 6371 at 06:10 AM WIB (Indonesian Western Standard Time) to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the first flight arriving is scheduled to be Lion Air JT 544 at 06:05 AM WIB from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

“We want to express our biggest gratitude to all stakeholders, including all ministries involved, the office of the prosecutor general, the regional government, community institutions, professionals, academicians, and other parties who had helped finish YIA,” Faik revealed in his official statement on Sunday (29/3).

According to Faik, despite being fully operational, there are 115 domestic active flights left at YIA due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, international flights at YIA have been put on hold by airlines until 11 May 2020 to prevent the virus from spreading even further.

On the other hand, at Adisutjipto Airport, the number of propeller aircraft flights increased to 59 flights from 29 flights, with 19 flights to and from Bandung (Citilink, Wings Air, Nam Air, and Trans Nusa), 10 flights to and from Jakarta-Halim Pedanakusuma (Citilink), 4 flights to and from Malang (Citilink and Trans Nusa), and 26 flights to and from Surabaya (Wings Air, Citilink, and Trans Nusa).

With YIA fully operational, Faik said that, as of 29 March 2020, YIA would be operational for a full 24 hours and accommodate domestic and international scheduled and non-scheduled commercial flights that use jets or propeller aircrafts, non-commercial flights or international charter flights (VIP and non-VIP), as well as domestic and international commercial and non-commercial cargo flights.

Meanwhile, the operating hours of Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) has changed from 05:00 AM WIB-09:00 PM WIB to 05:00 AM WIB-06:00 PM WIB, and it will only serve domestic scheduled or non-scheduled commercial flights using propeller aircraft, domestic non-commercial (charter) flights, and international non-commercial (charter) flights (VIP and VVIP).

“YIA being fully operational is an important milestone for Angkasa Pura I as Adisucipto airport lacks the capacity [to accommodate 8 million passengers with a capacity of only 1.8 million passengers yearly],” he said.

Previously, Faik explained that his company would not hold a ceremony to commemorate moving flights to YIA as they would be focused on preparing for the operation and also preventing coronavirus from spreading.

“At YIA, we are preventing the spread of coronavirus by maintaining a distance of 2 metres between passengers. We are providing hand sanitizers, spraying disinfectants, and using thermal scanners to check [the body temperatures of] passengers. We are implementing a virtual service. All staff are equipped with protective gears,” Faik explained.

Furthermore, he also confirmed that YIA provided various modes of land transportation to facilitate passengers who need to change transportation modes.
