Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has reaffirmed that the development of Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in parts of North Penajam Paser Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, aligns with the vision of establishing a new capital. He conveyed this assurance during his visit to Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser, on Thursday (29/5).
"We conducted a review to ensure that IKN's development proceeds according to the grand vision of establishing a new capital," Vice President Gibran stated in a press release quoted in Jakarta on Friday (30/5/2025).
His visit served as a crucial opportunity to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, ensuring that IKN embodies Indonesia’s progress and the spirit of mutual cooperation.
"We want to assess whether the supporting infrastructure for IKN's operations is being completed on time and to the required standards," he said.
Gibran further emphasised that his visit aimed to ensure that construction stays on schedule, helping IKN’s transformation into a modern, smart, and sustainable centre of government.
Upon arriving at Nusantara Airport, the Vice President’s delegation inspected segment 5B of the toll road project, which has reached 70% completion. They then proceeded to the Abdi Waluyo Hospital project, where the first-phase construction has achieved 75.67% progress.
The visit continued to the construction site of Gunadarma University, with initial works reaching 20% completion. Next was the Vice Presidential Palace, currently at 42.67% completion.
Other key sites reviewed included the ASN 1 Apartment Complex, nearing final completion at 97.09%, as well as the National Mosque Area, which is 60.48% complete, and the Basilica Area, currently at 4.63% progress.
During the visit, Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, announced that two projects had been completed and are now ready for operation—Hermina Hospital and the Coordinating Ministry 3 Office, both reaching 100% physical progress. Basuki also noted that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the opportunity to stay overnight at one of the ASN 1 residential units, which also houses IKN Authority employees.
He stressed that the infrastructure being developed goes beyond physical functionality to ensure long-term environmental and social sustainability. "The Vice President’s visit serves as a motivational boost for the IKN Authority to continue working effectively and efficiently," Basuki stated.
Accelerating development
East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud reported that several key projects in IKN are set for completion by the end of 2025, including the first phase of the Vice Presidential Palace.
"The Vice Presidential Residence, office, and related facilities will be completed by December 2025," Governor Rudy Mas’ud told Antara.
He explained that the Vice Presidential Palace, designed in the Huma Betang Umai (Mother's Longhouse) concept of the Dayak tradition, covers an area of 148,417 square metres (14.8 hectares) with a building size of 32,061 square metres and an investment of Rp1.457 trillion. "The glass installations are about to be placed—it is almost finished," the Governor remarked.
Other major IKN facilities set for completion in 2025 include toll roads, hospitals, a legislative building, and the IKN Authority Office. "There will be many exciting milestones in IKN this year," he added.
Governor Rudy Mas’ud expressed hope that the completion of the Vice Presidential Palace will accelerate the progress of other IKN facilities. "In two years, IKN will be fully operational, and President Prabowo will be able to work from here in 2028," he stated.
