17 January 2025
Jakarta, ID – The Finnish Embassy in Indonesia, along with Business Finland, visited Nusantara Capital City (IKN) on Tuesday (14/1). The purpose of the visit was to explore the smart pole technology prototype and other smart city technologies being developed in Nusantara.
During the visit, the Finnish Embassy, led by Finland's Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, Pekka Kaihilahti, along with a team from Business Finland, had the opportunity to directly observe the development of Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
They were accompanied by representatives from the Human Settlements Directorate General, the Public Works Ministry, the Data and Artificial Intelligence Directorate, the Funding and Investment Directorate, and the Social Infrastructure and Facilities Directorate.
During their visit, the group observed various technologies set to be implemented in IKN, including the proof of concept (POC) for the smart pole technology at Nusantara Techno House. They also toured the PSSI Training Centre, the State Palace, and the Ceremony Plaza. The visit concluded with a discussion at the MSME Gallery with Agung Wicaksono, the Funding and Investment Deputy of the IKN Authority.
"The main purpose of the visit is to collaborate with the IKN Authority in advancing smart city development. We possess the expertise, experience, and best practices in smart city development, and we are eager to share these with Indonesia," stated Finland's Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN, Pekka Kaihilahti, in his press statement in Jakarta on Thursday (16/1/2025).
Ambassador Kaihilahti also expressed the hope of strengthening the relationship and collaboration between Indonesia and Finland through these efforts.
IKN Authority Deputy for Funding and Investment, Agung Wicaksono, stated that the vision for IKN is to become a global city for all by 2045.
"We have many partners, and Finland, known for having the highest happiness index in the world, also boasts impressive technologies. The smart pole POC is spearheaded by the Green and Digital Transformation Deputy in terms of technical aspects and supported by the Funding and Investment Deputy regarding investment and commercial aspects," Agung stated.
Agung further mentioned that the IKN Authority has received numerous letters of intent from international partners, including countries from Europe like Finland.
"There are four letters of intent, and one has already resulted in a signed memorandum of understanding (MoU). We anticipate that this MoU will lead to concrete outcomes, thereby boosting investment in IKN, particularly from foreign investors," he stated.
He mentioned that the current investment value in IKN has reached Rp58 trillion, sourced from both domestic and international investors.
"IKN has attracted Rp58 trillion in investment, including foreign contributions. It is quite possible that one of these investments will come from Finland, bringing in advanced smart city technologies," he added.
This visit serves as a follow-up to the signing of the MoU between the IKN Authority and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Finland in January 2024. The delegation also included Shanaz Patel from the European Union and Endra Saleh Atmawidjaja, the Acting Human Settlements Director General of the Public Works Ministry.
