Internet video to surpass physical home video for the first time and extend its lead

Internet video market exhibits strong growth worldwide as home video shifts from the purchase and rental of physical goods such as DVDs, to the increasingly competitive over-the-top (OTT) market. For the first time in 2017, the global internet video market will overtake the physical home video market, positioning itself to grow at 11.6% CAGR by 2021.

The US internet video market is by far the largest and most established in the world, accounting for 47% of global revenue in 2016. The landscape continues to evolve at a fast pace, with the more established over-the-top (OTT) players making the significant transition from aggregators of non-exclusive programming to providers of original content that they can offer on an exclusive basis.
