Why did you pursue a career in Deals?

The Edge programme was a big factor in my decision to pursue a career in Deals. It was a great honour to be part of the first official Edge Programme (Cohort 1) and it is one of the best life decisions I have ever made, to join PwC, Deals and the Edge Programme. The fact you get to experience working across the different departments and also get the opportunity to travel internationally was something that really appealed to me. Knowing the Deals department was project driven and the idea of working on busy short-term projects alongside some of the best people in the industry was something that definitely attracted me to Deals.

Did you have any role models?

Yes. My role model was my first boss on my first job in Singapore Power. She mentored me and showed me how woman can be leaders in our fields. She went on to become the youngest person to ever become a CFO in a listed company in Singapore and later also the Group CFO of the company with the largest market capitalisation in Singapore.

Tell us about your role, what does it involve? 
 

The digitisation of Deals is a hot topic. During the Edge programme I discovered that I want to be part of this – I like to work with data, developing our people, and I enjoy thinking out of the box. I constantly think: how can we do things better and more efficiently?​

Since finishing my rotations, I have been involved in data-driven initiatives related to the digitisation of Deals. I had a data & analytics role for 1.5 years in our Financial Due Diligence team, during which I worked on innovative tools and facilitated training sessions to upskill others and expand their D&A capabilities.​

I’m now with the Deal Analytics team for two years, focusing on creating a digital asset related to benchmarking. In my role, I can be creative and innovative, which I really enjoy. I work together with Deals colleagues from all levels and teams, developers and specialists and act as a linking pin between them.

Did you have any role models?

I am fortunate to have a few role models both in general life and career aspirations. Luckily, I don't have to look far from the Dublin office as we have some incredible women working in Deals such as Orla Fisher. Orla's work ethic and drive is immeasurable. She is extremely successful in her line of work but also incredibly generous with her time. Orla invests a huge amount of her time into looking after junior members of staff, coaching them through the early years of their career and getting to know everyone on a personal level.

What piece of advice would you give to female recruits considering joining a career in PwC Deals?

This is the best time for women to enter Deals or other traditionally male dominated arenas. Employers have a broader agenda to diversify the workforce and so female graduates are walking into an environment which is designed to attract and retain women in a way which it never has been before.

1. Be prepared to work hard; but at the end of the day, savour the moment when high-profile clients are calling to ask you for your advice on major deals. The work ethic is high, but the personal and professional satisfaction is even higher.
2. Don’t think that you can’t be successful in Deals and have a well-balanced, healthy family life; anything and everything is possible.
3. Be prepared to be one of the only women in the room and work a little harder to establish your presence, but know that you have a wonderful support system of strong female leaders within PwC Deals.
