Global mobility policies and practices survey

July 2021 - Business Travelers and Commuters edition

As borders reopen and business travel resumes, companies are struggling to own and manage the new mobility landscape. How are companies planning to return to a coherent and consistent mobile experience for both the employee and employer?

Key mobility priorities over the next 2 years

Mobility is evolving in new and different ways, and shifts in the regulatory environment have yielded a heightened focus on compliance. 62% of respondents cite ‘risk and compliance’ as a key mobility priority over the next 2 years, followed by ‘employee experience’ at 42%. It’s seemingly more important than ever for employers to know where their people are and ensure their safety and security. How do companies manage? By ensuring an overarching, connected framework for mobile employees.

Finding an approach that works for your organization

Many companies struggle with business travel. Developing a formal policy to actively manage it can reduce your organization's exposure to risk. Just over half of survey respondents have a formal mobility policy in place to support business traveler/commuter mobile employees. But it’s not one-size-fits-all—an effective policy should reflect your organization’s risk profile and needs and allow you to execute the approach that works for your employees.

The return of business travel

Will business travel ever return to where it was pre-COVID? While 31% of survey respondents anticipate a decrease in business travel over the next two years, over 40% and 62% anticipate an increase in business travel and frequent business travel, respectively. It may seem unlikely that all organizations will reach the level of travel they once had, but it would appear that many organizations are eager to have employees back on the road, at least to some extent.
