Ian Bennett, PwC Australia - Why do you think it’s important that PwC provide volunteering opportunities?

“The skills of the people of PwC are highly valuable to organisations that exist only to do good, but they often don't have the resources to do those things that would significantly increase their impact. With every hour of unskilled volunteering we replace with skilled volunteering, we create genuine meaningful long-term value to society”.

Elizabeth Fritts, PwC Australia - Why do you share your time and skills volunteering?

“I first signed up as a mentor for an Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) program -- providing long-form mentorship programs to high school students from identified lower socioeconomic high schools, with program content focused on topics such as leadership, STEM, time management, and career preparedness.

The mentor opportunities I've been fortunate enough to be a part of at PwC makes me thankful to work for an organisation that values volunteerism and social impact in its most pure and authentic form.  The ABCN truly makes a difference in the community, and its incredible for PwC to be part of that.”

Subha Sudeep, PwC India - Do you have a standout volunteering memory or experience?

“We have been engaging with younger girls rescued from human trafficking operations. When we first started interacting with the girls, they didn't trust us they were shy, introverts, not open to talking to us, not interested in participating in any of the sessions we conducted. But after our continuous engagement for a year, we could see a major difference in them. They became confident, we prepared them for public speaking, gave them sessions on goal setting, personality development, motivation, basic English speaking etc – which created a great impact on their complete transformation”. 

“For me it's super important to have a chance to give back to children, to society a little piece of what we have learnt as professionals, as human beings. To keep my mind updated about what is going at the types of schools that we support. In my heart and in my brain if I have something and I don't share it with others, it's not relevant. I am sure that the future belongs to children, so if I am able to give a piece of what I know or have to them, I know that I am contributing somehow to make the world a better place.” 

Nathan Chan, PwC New Zealand - How did you first get started volunteering with PwC?

“The PwC Foundation here in New Zealand was one of the differentiating points of why I chose to join PwC. Upon joining as a graduate, the foundation launched their financial literacy programme (FLiP) and was asking for volunteers and help to sign up schools. From there, I helped the foundation manager with growing FLiP internally across the Auckland firm and externally by using my contacts to bring upon schools for the programme”.

“I have always been driven to volunteer in ways that link directly through to my passion areas - Social Mobility and Mental Health, I also enjoy encouraging others to give back, which is why I planned our teams One Firm One Day activities. After attending the One Young World Summit in The Hague, I realised even more so how important it is to encourage others to get involved in giving back to really maximise the impact that we can have on communities. This resulted in recently setting up a Social Mobility Network for the PwC UK firm. The network is twofold, one aspect is bringing together a community of like minded individuals who are passionate about Social Mobility, and the other is to amplify the firm’s social mobility activities through creation of champion roles, who are responsible for driving activities in their local regions and business units. After just over a month we have over 550 members in the community, 64 champions and 4 partner ambassadors, and our executive board sponsor Laura Hinton, PwC UK - I can't wait to see the difference we can all make together”. 

Samantha Superstine, PwC US - What type of volunteering opportunities do you get involved in?

“I have always been an active volunteer in the communities around me. In 2015, the PwC tax leadership made us aware of partnerships they had with a local organization - the Rice Center. Since then, I have attended financial literacy sessions for kids of all ages, spent time with children at summer camp playing sports, organized local fundraising campaigns, and worked with a local community organization to assist with improving internal data processes.”

“I love anything to do with children and education. I am uniquely situated in the city of Chicago to be nearby some of the country's most underserved children, and therefore I love opportunities to interact with students and teachers to help teach them about planning for the future, or even just playing games!”

Joshua Cooper, PwC US - Why do you think it’s important that PwC provide volunteering opportunities?

“I think it’s important that PwC provides opportunities for our people to volunteer in their community because it provides our people with a sense of purpose and belonging. When people give back and feel a sense of belonging to the communities they live in, they are more engaged at work and in their personal lives. PwC has so many resources that it is our duty to use these resources to give back to our communities. With PwC’s commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, volunteering helps drive that commitment on the ground - allowing our people to help those in need, which many times include historically underrepresented populations”.
