Kontan.co.id – Jakarta. PT Waskita Karya Tbk (WSKT) is currently constructing the wildlife bridge near the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Toll Road, Section 3B, KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung segment in East Kalimantan.
Spanning 8.16 metres, the bridge will serve as a crossing for Kalimantan’s endemic wildlife, including clouded leopards, proboscis monkeys, sun bears, and orangutans.
Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita stated that the bridge connects two hills, facilitating the movement of animals that inhabit Hutan Lindung Sungai Wain.
"As is known, the protected forest is located near the IKN Toll Road Section 3B, which the company is also constructing," she said in an official statement on Thursday (22/5).
The wildlife bridge consists of two tunnel-shaped crossings covered with soil. As part of the company’s commitment to sustainable construction technology, Waskita is using lightweight embankment material, or foam mortar, as a substitute for soil fill.
Ermy added that Waskita is not only focused on infrastructure projects but also committed to environmental and ecosystem preservation.
"The company recognises that safe and comfortable road facilities are essential not only for humans but also for wildlife," she remarked.
WSKT acknowledged that the Rp2.6 billion project is challenging due to its proximity to Hutan Lindung Sungai Wain, which serves as a wildlife corridor.
Thus, the construction must be designed to align with the natural habitat of the animals, ensuring they can cross without being disturbed by the toll road below.
Despite these challenges, Waskita is optimistic about completing the wildlife bridge on time and in accordance with quality standards.
It is worth noting that this project, part of the IKN Toll Road Section 3B KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung work package, is scheduled for completion by August 2026.
"We also hope that the project will generate positive multiplier effects," Ermy added.
