Investor Daily - Jalan tol Sigli-Banda Aceh tuntas akhir 2025

25 June 2025

The Ministry of Public Works (PU), in collaboration with the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Hutama Karya (Persero), is finalising the construction of the Sigli–Banda Aceh (Sibanceh) toll road, which stretches 74.2 kilometres. As the first toll road in Aceh Province, it is nearly fully connected, with only minor final works remaining on the Padang Tidji–Seulimeum and Kuto Baro–Simpang Baitussalam segments. The entire project is targeted for completion this year.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the toll road is essential for accelerating the distribution of goods and services, improving efficiency, and reducing transportation costs.

“It is expected to shorten travel times between regions in the logistics sector, thereby encouraging the growth of new economic centres,” said Minister Dody in a press release quoted in Jakarta, Tuesday (24 June 2025).

Construction of the toll road began in the second half of 2018, starting with the Indrapuri–Blang Bintang segment. The Sigli–Banda Aceh toll road consists of six segments, with overall physical progress reaching 96.67%. The Padang Tidji–Seulimeum segment, which spans 24.67 km, is currently in the final stages of construction, with 99.46% physical progress. Ongoing works include the construction of toll gates, box culverts, and overpasses.

Other segments have already been operational for several years. The Seulimeum–Jantho segment has been in use since 8 March 2022, while the Jantho–Indrapuri segment has been operational since 26 February 2021. The Indrapuri–Blang Bintang segment began operations on 1 July 2020, and the Blang Bintang–Kuto Baro segment is also in use. The Kuto Baro–Simpang Baitussalam segment, which spans 5 km, has completed its main road construction and is now 100% finished. The remaining work involves the construction of the Kuto Baro Interchange, which is currently 87% complete.

“For the Kuto Baro–Simpang Baitussalam segment, only the interchange remains unfinished. The progress is now at 87%, while the main road is already operational,” said Head of the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN), Heri Yugiantoro.

Once the final two segments are completed, the entire Sigli–Banda Aceh toll road will be fully connected, linking Banda Aceh City with Pidie Regency by 2025.

This toll road is expected to drive regional development, facilitate the flow of goods and people, and improve access to production and distribution centres across Aceh.

The Sigli–Banda Aceh toll road is one of the main segments (backbone) of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road and is designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN) to promote economic growth and equitable development in Aceh.
