Jakarta, ID – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia, or PT Pelni (Persero), has officially entered into an integrated cooperation agreement with the Transportation Ministry for the public service obligation (PSO) of economic class sea transportation for the 2025 fiscal year, valued at Rp2.8 trillion.

Pelni President Director Tri Andayani emphasised the company's commitment to supporting interregional connectivity and enhancing public welfare through affordable and high-quality transportation. "As a national shipping company, we are responsible for providing affordable, safe, and quality sea transportation services for all citizens in Indonesia, especially those in remote and outermost regions," Andayani stated in a press release in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 January 2024.

In 2025, Pelni will operate 25 passenger ships, serving 511 segments with 1,359 routes and visiting 74 ports. This marks an increase from 2024, when the company served 482 segments with 1,297 routes and visited 72 ports. Andayani assured that Pelni is prepared to fulfil its role in the shipping sector to support economic activities across Indonesia. "We are ready to undertake this task responsibly. Pelni’s services not only ensure the connectivity of passengers and goods but also play a crucial role in supporting economic development throughout Indonesia," he added.

The Transportation Ministry, particularly the Sea Transportation Directorate General, has tasked Pelni with providing 25 routes for its passenger ship PSO in 2025. In addition to the PSO, Pelni will be responsible for establishing 30 pioneer ship routes, 18 rede ship routes, eight maritime highway ship routes, and one livestock ship route.

The maritime highway and pioneer shipping programmes aim to improve logistics distribution efficiency and reduce price disparities between regions. Meanwhile, the PSO programme for economic class passengers ensures access to safe, affordable, and quality sea transportation services.

Besides PT Pelni, other state-owned enterprises (SOEs) such as Djakarta Lloyd (Persero) and PT ASDP Indonesia Feri are also assigned tasks. The Transportation Ministry, through the Sea Transportation Directorate General, will organise various initiatives, including the organisation of pioneer shipping on 107 routes, with 30 routes assigned to PT Pelni (Persero) and 77 routes established via the e-purchasing catalogue. There will also be the organisation of cargo ships on the maritime highway for 39 routes, with 19 routes under the assignment scheme and 20 routes via the e-purchasing catalogue. Special livestock ships will be organised to serve six routes, with two routes under the assignment scheme and four routes selected through tender. Moreover, rede ships will be organised with 18 routes assigned to PT Pelni, and the PSO for economic class passenger ships will operate on 25 routes assigned to Pelni.

These efforts are designed to enhance transport connectivity and contribute to the nation's economic development by ensuring efficient and equitable access to transportation services.
