The Ministry of Transportation and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the aviation sector, particularly in aircraft maintenance and the development of the aviation industry in Indonesia.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi received a visit from the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, on Tuesday (25/2) at the Ministry of Transportation Office in Jakarta. This meeting discussed the potential for strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE, especially in the aviation sector.
During the meeting, both parties discussed various collaboration opportunities that could strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the aviation sector.
"The main focus of the discussion includes developing cooperation in aircraft maintenance and the development of the aviation industry in Indonesia," said the Minister of Transportation in a press release quoted in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/2/2025).
Cooperation in the aviation sector is considered to have great potential, given Indonesia's strategic position on international trade routes. Additionally, there is an increasing demand for aviation services in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Minister of Transportation hopes that cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE will not be limited to the aviation sector but can also be expanded to other transportation sectors.
The training was attended by aviation inspectors and representatives from the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) as the SSP Team, with the aim of strengthening the implementation of the safety management system in Indonesia's aviation industry.
The Safety Management System is a systematic approach used by aviation organisations to manage safety proactively. This system is designed to identify, assess, and manage safety risks that may occur in aviation operations. Meanwhile, the State Safety Programme is a safety framework implemented by the state to manage aviation safety nationally, aiming to ensure that the state has a coordinated approach to maintaining and enhancing aviation safety.
The Director of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations, M. Mauludin, expressed appreciation for the ongoing collaboration between the Directorate General of Air Transportation and Boeing, as part of the strategic cooperation strengthened through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in October 2023.
"We greatly appreciate Boeing's commitment to supporting the development of the aviation sector in Indonesia. This partnership is an important step in improving national aviation safety standards," said Mauludin.
