PwC Netherlands innovates the electric transport sector

Setting the scene

PwC Netherlands is throwing its support behind PwC’s global efforts to reduce our collective carbon footprint. They have set the ambition to be fully circular by 2030, which to them means no emissions, zero waste and optimal (re)use of our materials. Their greatest current impact area is mobility, both in the air and on the ground. A central part of PwC Netherlands achieving this goal is to support the growth, development and adoption of circular technology and transport innovation.

Supporting electric aviation

In 2018, PwC Netherlands donated an electric airplane for further development to the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) and donated 170.000 euro to the General Aviation e-Platform to develop the proper infrastructure at airports, i.e. charging stations and pilot training facilities. Through these initiatives they believe they can help accelerate innovation in the flight industry that could result in providing sustainable alternatives in the long term. In addition to the support of alternative aviation options, PwC Netherlands is encouraging online meetings and international train travel as travel methods in the short term.

Encouraging electric driving

PwC Netherlands is also encouraging the use of electric cars with their employees. If eligible employees choose a fully electric car, their lease budget increases by approximately 200 euros per month. In FY19, PwC Netherlands will provide the opportunity to 200 employees with a lease contract of two years or older to exchange their car for a 100% electric car. The 200 available slots filled up within the first 2 months. Drivers of plug-in hybrid cars were also eligible to trade in their cars for an electric version, as the goal is to have no fossil fuelled cars by 2025. In addition, PwC Netherland’s fully electric car fleet (hybrids excluded) went up from 0.6% in Q1FY16 to 9.6% Q4FY18.
