Hugh Sutcliffe

Hugh brings over 30 years of forest industry experience in woodlands, forest products, manufacturing and worldwide marketing, as well as significant knowledge of the international timber industry and private timberlands management. Hugh has played a key role in Brookfield’s acquisition of integrated forest products companies that have large timberlands, particularly in the separation of these timberlands from the manufacturing components and in leading the subsequent operation and sale of these manufacturing businesses. Most recently, Hugh led the restructuring of Longview Fibre’s pulp and paper business following the acquisition of Longview Fibre in 2007.

Hugh was also President of Cascadia Forest Products (Cascadia), which was formed in April 2005 to acquire certain converting assets in connection with Brookfield’s acquisition of Weyerhaeuser’s coastal British Columbia assets, and sold to Western Forest Products in April 2006. Prior to this time, he held the position of Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at International Forest Products (Interfor) for four years, where he was responsible for leading an employee base of 3,400 in the successful turnaround of the company, which resulted in elimination of debt, increased market share, reduced cost structure and a significant increase in the company’s market capitalization. In addition, Hugh managed the Woodland operations at Interfor for two years as Vice-President. Prior to joining Interfor, Hugh held a number of executive and operational positions across woodlands, lumber manufacturing and marketing, predominantly at Pacific Forest Products in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hugh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the University of British Columbia. He is a Professional Engineer and a Professional Forester.
