February

February 18, 2010: Calgary — IFRS - Are You on Track? - Asset Impairment - PricewaterhouseCoopers Breakfast Information Session

Accounting for asset impairment under IFRS

With IFRS rapidly approaching, organizations need to make critical decisions prior to transition. For oil and gas companies, understanding the principles for impairment testing under IFRS, the application of these rules for oil and gas assets, and the impact of differences to existing practice, is an important step in the transition process. Due to popular demand, we are holding a second information session on asset impairment.

What you need to know

We invite you to join PricewaterhouseCoopers' Audit Assurance Group for a breakfast information session on the impact of IFRS on oil and gas financial reporting, and the solutions available to help you get a running start in the IFRS race.

This session will focus on how to test for impairment under IFRS, including a focus on understanding the IFRS concepts of "fair value less cost to sell" and "value in use" in the context of the oil and gas industry. The session will also focus on key differences between an IFRS impairment model and a Canadian GAAP ceiling test, including consideration of information availability and system requirements.

Impairment calculations are complex and will likely require knowledge outside the accounting function. Accordingly, we encourage you to forward this invite to appropriate engineering or treasury personnel that will be involved in the process.
