Michael Paterson is the Chief Risk & Resilience Officer and a member of the firm’s Canadian Leadership Team. In his new role, Michael will have oversight of Risk Management / Regulatory, the Chief Legal Counsel, Security, Privacy, Ethics, Independence and Internal Audit.

Prior to this role, Michael has been instrumental in driving profession-leading quality and profitable growth across our Assurance practice as our National Assurance Leader as well as the Asia Pacific Americas Assurance Leader.

Michael has played a key role in digitally transforming PwC’s assurance services by embedding innovation in technology, working practices and delivery models, while leading people through periods of exceptional change. He has served our clients leading teams in delivering Assurance services to our publicly listed companies, primarily in the media and technology sectors.

With more than 25 years of experience, Michael provides a unique and valuable perspective on financial and non-financial business issues. His practical advice and understanding of business, risk, regulation, accounting and technology converge to provide clients with greater confidence reporting to stakeholders. His expertise includes financial accounting/reporting, auditing and internal controls and data analytics.

Active in the community and the profession, Michael is a past member of the CPA Canada Innovation Committee and is a regular presenter at CPA Canada conferences. He has also instructed audit committee effectiveness courses at ICD Canada. Michael is a father to three very active children.

Michael graduated with a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He earned his CA designation in 2000 and was the Ontario Provincial Bronze Medalist on the National Uniform Final Exam of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
