Michael Paterson

National Assurance Leader, PwC Canada

Michael Paterson is the National Assurance Leader and a member of PwC Canada’s Extended Leadership Team. He is also the Assurance leader for the Asia-Pacific Americas cluster and a member of the PwC Global Assurance Leadership Team. Michael continues to be a practicing assurance partner, working with our clients in the entertainment and media sector.

Prior to his current role, Michael was a member of the Risk Assurance Leadership Team and worked with a team providing systems, technology and data analytics assurance services.

Michael has played a key role in digitally transforming PwC’s assurance services by embedding innovation in technology, working practices and delivery models. He is one of the firm’s key experts in understanding the business opportunities and challenges of emerging technologies such as blockchain, robotic process automation and artificial intelligence.

With more than 20 years of experience, Michael provides a unique and valuable perspective on financial and non-financial business issues. His practical advice and understanding of business, risk, accounting and technology converge to provide clients with greater confidence reporting to stakeholders. His expertise includes financial accounting/reporting, internal controls and data analytics.

Active in the community and the profession, Michael is a member of the CPA Canada Innovation Committee and is a regular presenter at CPA Canada conferences. He has also instructed audit committee effectiveness courses at ICD Canada. In his spare time, Michael is a coach in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).

Michael graduated with a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. He earned his CA designation in 2000 and was the Ontario Provincial Bronze Medalist on the National Uniform Final Exam of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Michael also holds a Certified Public Accountant designation in the state of Illinois.
