Tempo - Rusia bersedia modernisasi infrastruktur ladang minyak tua Indonesia
20 June 2025
President Vladimir Putin stated that Russian companies are ready to help modernise ageing oil field infrastructure in Indonesia to boost oil production.
This statement was made during his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 19 June 2025.
“We are willing to participate in new offshore projects in Indonesia and also modernise infrastructure to increase oil production from ageing fields,” said Putin.
Putin noted that Russian oil and gas companies have been operating effectively in Indonesia. He added that Russia is also prepared to increase its supply of crude oil and liquefied natural gas to the Indonesian market. Currently, Russian oil company Zarubezhneft is working with Pertamina on a joint project to build an oil refinery and petrochemical complex in East Java Province.
Beyond carbon energy cooperation, Putin said Russia is open to working with Indonesia to support the development of domestic nuclear capabilities.
“We are open to cooperation with our Indonesian partners in the nuclear sector. We are also keen to realise peaceful nuclear projects, including in healthcare, agriculture, and staff training,” he said.
Russia is also interested in collaborating with Indonesia in advanced technology sectors, including peaceful space exploration, smart cities, and artificial intelligence.
President Prabowo Subianto is actively pursuing energy self-sufficiency and has urged his administration to increase domestic oil lifting.
According to Prabowo, energy self-sufficiency is as vital as food security. A nation that achieves both will be strong and resilient.
“If a country can be self-sufficient in food and energy, it will be powerful and immune to external threats. It will survive any situation,” said Prabowo in Jakarta on Friday, 16 May 2025, during the virtual inauguration of the Forel and Terubuk oil fields.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that President Prabowo has instructed the Ministry to increase oil lifting to around 900,000 barrels per day by 2029. The average lifting in 2024 was 580,000 barrels per day.
“This means we need to raise production by roughly 320,000 barrels. Achieving this target requires focus, time, and total commitment,” said Bahlil.
