Investor Daily - MedcoEnergi operasikan PLTS Bali Timur

18 June 2025

PT Medco Energi Internasional (MEDC), through its subsidiary Medco Power Indonesia (Medco Power), has commenced commercial operations of a 25 MWp solar power plant (PLTS) managed by PT Medcosolar Bali Timur, located in Karangasem, East Bali.

“The East Bali PLTS project is part of MedcoEnergi’s long-term strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and invest in low-carbon solutions. As our renewable energy portfolio continues to grow, MedcoEnergi remains committed to driving initiatives that deliver environmental, social, and economic value for Indonesia,” said MedcoEnergi President Director & CEO Roberto Lorato in an official statement on Tuesday (17 June 2025).

Lorato revealed that the East Bali PLTS project was developed through a partnership between Medco Power and Solar Philippines, and is operated under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PT PLN. Over the next two decades, the facility will supply renewable energy to the local electricity grid, replacing conventional energy sources and supporting national efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

He stated that the PLTS is capable of generating approximately 50 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the energy needs of around 42,000 households. Throughout its operational lifespan, the plant is projected to avoid more than 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

“The integration of the East Bali PLTS into the local electricity grid will enhance energy supply reliability while supporting community sustainability and economic activities in the region,” said Medco Power CEO & President Director Eka Satria.

On 15 June, MEDC also announced the first oil lifting from the Forel Oil Field in South Natuna Sea Block B. Production from this field has reached 10,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and is stored on the Marlin Natuna Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) before being shipped.

The Forel Field was previously inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto through a hybrid ceremony on 16 May 2025. The Marlin Natuna FPSO is Indonesia’s first domestically developed FPSO vessel project.
