Consumer books grow steadily with revenue shifting from bricks-and-mortar stores to online

Despite the unique challenges within each segment of the book market, total books revenue will grow by of 1.1% CAGR over the next five years as print revenue declines decelerate, or even see growth, in major markets. By 2021, total book revenue will reach US$121.1bn, up from US$114.8bn in 2016.

Professional e-books will account for a higher proportion of total revenue compared to consumer and educational books

Professional books will have the most favorable impact of digitisation out of all the book publishing sectors, followed by consumer and educational books respectively. Many users of e-books in the professional sphere will also make the switch as a tablet that weighs less than half a kilogram can contain hundreds of e-books for any professional who has to consult textbooks regularly.
