Investor Daily: PUPR dorong PDAM perluas layanan air siap minum

2 December 2019

Jakarta – The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, through Drinking Water Supply System Development Supporting Agency (BPPSPAM), continues to improve Drinking Water Supply Systems (SPAM) through city-owned drinking water companies (PDAM) as the regional-owned enterprise (BUMD) that provides Primary Drinking Water Zone (ZAMP), which provides water that is safe to drink.

BPPSPAM Chairman Bambang Sudiatmo said that ZAMP was the highest form of drinking water service that PDAMs could provide to serve drinking water to the public. “In providing ZAMP, PDAMs must continuously maintain the production system and the distribution system so water that comes out of the customer’s faucet is safe to drink,” Bambang stated in his official statement last weekend.

According to Bambang, this effort is done to improve the performance of PDAMs as the operator that provides SPAM in various regions.

“The PDAM performance improvement is expected to support the government realising 100% decent drinking water access and 15% safe drinking water access by 2024,” he said.

Bambang said that, technically, realising the target was no easy feat. However, BPPSPAM is optimistic about 37 PDAMs providing ZAMP in 2024.From 380 PDAMs, there are currently only eight PDAMs that provide the service, namely Bogor Regency PDAM, Malang PDAM, Tirtanadi Medan PDAM, Tangerang City PDAM, Bogor City PDAM, Buleleng PDAM, Intan Banjar PDAM, and Padang Panjang PDAM.
