Jakarta, ID – This year, the Transportation Ministry is planning to inaugurate 21 infrastructure projects, comprising of national strategic projects (PSNs), Nusantara Capital City (IKN) projects, and projects with multiyear contracts.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi announced that multiple infrastructure projects slated for inauguration in 2024 were poised to bolster domestic transportation. The revelation was made during a work meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) Commission V at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday (2/4).

“In 2024, a total of 21 projects are set for inauguration. These include six ferry ports, one ferry ship, eight ports, five airports, and double-track railways,” Transportation Minister Budi said in his press statement on Wednesday (3/4/2024).

He highlighted several transportation infrastructure projects slated for inauguration this year, such as Telo Island Ferry Port in Nias Regency, North Sumatra and Donggala Port in Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi.

They also include the development of Sultan Babullah Ternate Airport in Ternate City in North Maluku, Kiaracondong-Cicalengka double-track railway in West Java, and Mandailing Natal Airport in North Sumatra.

“These transportation infrastructure projects are expected to improve public and interregional connectivity, thereby boosting overall economic growth,” Budi said.

Budi Karya said that the Transportation Ministry was committed to the policies and priorities in the 2024 budget. The commitment will be realised through productive connectivity infrastructure development, safety and security improvements in the transportation sector, human resource development, and national equitable development.

The Transportation Ministry is also focusing on implementing pro-people programmes, ensuring continuity in multiyear contract programmes, meeting national priorities, planning and developing PSNs, IKN, urban mass transportation, and promoting the utilisation of new and renewable energy utilisation.

“As 2024 marks the final year of President Jokowi's administration, the Transportation Ministry is dedicated to achieving the targets outlined in the 2020-2024 RPJMN (National Medium-Term Development Plan), which have been designated as priority initiatives requiring implementation,” Budi said.

He said that, from January to March 2024, there were 16 transportation infrastructure projects inaugurated, including eight type A terminals, three ports, and five airports.

Based on the Finance Minister Letter dated 25 September 2023, Budi continued that the indicative budget ceiling for the Transportation Ministry for Fiscal Year 2024 was Rp38.60 trillion.

Out of the budget ceiling, the allocation for connectivity infrastructure programmes amounts to 67%, totalling Rp25.92 trillion, while management receives 26%, totalling Rp10.2 trillion, and education and vocational programs receive 6%, totalling Rp2.47 trillion.

“Until 1 April 2024, the budget realisation of the Transportation Ministry has reached Rp6.45 trillion or 15.63%,” Budi said.

The Transportation Minister added that several work programmes of the Transportation Ministry in 2024, based on the echelon I work unit, included support for IKN, national strategic tourism areas, and buy the service.

They also encompass pioneering transportation services within the transportation sector, such as the maritime highway, air bridges, improvement and provision of transportation facilities and infrastructure, and education and vocational training in the transportation sector.

Meanwhile, DPR Commission V Chair Lasarus is asking the Transportation Ministry to expedite the realisation of programmes and activities in Fiscal Year 2024 while still prioritising transparency, accountability, and usefulness for the people.

“DPR Commission V also appreciates the unqualified opinion for 10 years in a row,” Lasarus said.

Eid Transportation Post

On a separate occasion, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi officially opened the 2024 Integrated Eid Transportation Command Post at the Transportation Ministry Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/4). During the occasion, the Transportation Minister led a coordination meeting attended by cross-sectoral institutions.

He said that public movement during the Eid period must be anticipated by providing reliable facilities and infrastructure in all sectors. Moreover, during the Eid period this year, according to the survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Transportation Ministry, 71.7% of Indonesian citizens or 193.6 million people are expected to travel.

“This constitutes a significant volume of movement, encompassing both intra-city and inter-city/provincial travel, including areas within Greater Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and other urban centres. Last year, we tracked 123 million travellers via mobile positioning, serving as a crucial indicator necessitating thorough preparatory measures,” the Transportation Minister said.
