Jakarta, ID – Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that Apple, the information and communication technology giant from the United States of America (USA), has enthusiastically responded to the invitation to invest in the development of the smart city of Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

The response was made by Apple CEO Tim Cook when he visited and met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (17/4/2024).

According to Budi Arie, during the meeting, the President offered an opportunity to invest in the development of the smart city of IKN to encourage the manufacturing of Apple’s various telecommunications devices in Indonesia, including the iPhone.

“The President stated to Apple how it can participate in the development of the smart city of IKN,” Budi Arie stated.

According to the Communication and Informatics Minister, Apple is optimistic about investing in Indonesia as it sees a large market opportunity with the continuous development of IKN, which is promising for business development.

“Later, there will be more detailed talks. The Communication and Informatics Ministry will fully support and supervise the standardisation of its telecommunications devices,” he added.

Budi Arie continued that, during the discussion with President Jokowi at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, Apple’s CEO reckoned that Indonesia was a country with significant development potential due to its diverse cultures and large population.
