Kent Smith is an associate partner in the Tax Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Ottawa office. He leads the Ottawa Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Incentives practice.
Kent has more than 14 years of public accounting experience and has worked with a variety of organizations to develop a robust understanding of the SR&ED program. He has extensive experience working with tax authorities and companies to prepare claims and has recently been involved in some of the most complex technology and manufacturing claims filed across the country.
Kent graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a BCom in 1993, and he earned his CA designation in 1996. In 2006 and 2007, Kent taught the SR&ED course for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He has co-authored a guide released by the Canada Revenue Agency on the Allocation of Labour Expenditures for SR&ED.
Kent volunteers his time as the Treasurer of the Ottawa Network and the Treasurer of the Mary Honeywell Elementary School Parent Council. He also volunteers at the Office of the Vice President (Research and International) at Carleton University.
In 2007, Kent was recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal as one of city’s “Forty Under 40,” an award that recognizes business people under the age of 40 who balance bottom line results with a desire to participate in charitable and community activities.
