PwC positions its services along a continuum that stretches from strategy through execution

PwC was announced as a Leader in ‘Product Development Operations Consulting 2019’ by ALM Intelligence, a company that assesses consulting firms in defined markets on the basis of their breadth and depth of service capabilities and ability to deploy those across highly-complex client requirements.

According to the report, “Outside select industry sectors like engineered products and life sciences, the primary role of most R&D teams is to coordinate between the front office that sets the product strategy and the middle office that delivers it. The proper domain of R&D, then, is to render economically viable what is desirable for customers and technically feasible for the supply chain (although the ethos of most engineers tends to elevate technical feasibility above all else).”

Commenting on the leader status, ALM states that “PwC combines an array of acquired assets, including its Management Engineers and Strategy& affiliates, the operations and benchmarking backbone of its PRTM heritage, IT resources and partnerships, and the geographic and sector footprints of its network members. This combination pays particular dividends in streamlining and coordinating global R&D footprints.”

Commenting on PwC’s approach, Nathan Simon, author of the report, states: “PwC directs its consulting approach at three client needs. One is the shift from products to software and services, which is driving companies to change their R&D methods as well as the talent, culture, and customer interactions required to execute their business model transformations. For this, PwC believes companies need to retool their R&D functions for agile delivery and empowered product management. Another is the need to use R&D to get more from less through well-tuned operating models. For this, PwC believes R&D must better integrate strategically, organizationally, and culturally with the broader business. The last is the need for global R&D footprint optimisation, which hinges, per PwC, on organising for effectiveness rather than efficiency.”

The report goes on to say: “PwC positions its services along a continuum that stretches from strategy through execution and enablement, with product development offerings clustered in the latter two areas, and a strong focus on program delivery as well as client capability development.”

Randy Browning, Global Advisory Markets Leader and Global Consulting Competencies Leader, PwC, said:  “We are delighted to be named a leader by ALM Intelligence.  When working with a client, our focus is always on results. We help our clients build, own and deliver successful strategies and capabilities to optimise product and service development. Our teams focus on empowering and enabling our clients to fully understand their strategy and we work with teams to bring it to life. In product development operations consulting we deliver real transformational results for clients no matter how challenging the conditions they face.”
