Overview

The global section of our 2018 Privacy and Security Enforcement Tracker provides a synopsis of key privacy issues and trends in 36 countries - 18 in Europe (including the UK) and 18 in the rest of the world. The content has been compiled from contributions from our data protection experts worldwide. Also included in this year’s tracker are summaries of a number of privacy regulatory enforcement cases. 

Key findings

2018 was without question a pivotal year for Privacy – not just in the EU but globally. Almost every country reports an increase in the number of complaints, issues and breaches raised to the privacy regulator. Consumers are increasingly aware of their rights in relation to their personal data organisations of their obligations, however, privacy issues continues to hit the headlines.

This year we’ve extended and standardised the tracker to provide more consistent content covering topics such as the contact details and powers of each country’s privacy regulator, links to the full regulatory text, and local requirements on issues such as Data Controller and Data Protection Officer (DPO) registration.
