In this video, PwC global climate leader Emma Cox talks with Microsoft’s corporate VP of sustainability, Elisabeth Brinton, about the importance of understanding your company’s upstream and downstream carbon impact, from suppliers to end users. Collecting reliable data on those Scope 3 emissions can be daunting, says Brinton, but it’s the smart path forward. “One of the things that is key…is having a solution mindset, where you’re incorporating innovation and you see the opportunities around Scope 3 as a place of differentiation for your business model.” The fact is, better Scope 3 data can lead to better relationships with suppliers, lower costs, and stronger customer trust—and, with regulators increasingly eyeing companies’ full carbon footprint, falling behind isn’t an option.
