Ian Heine is a partner in the Tax Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Vancouver office. As part of the Corporate Tax team, he works with clients in our Technology, Information, Communication and Entertainment industry group and serves as the Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences industry leader for British Columbia. He is also part of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ CleanTech network.

Ian assists entrepreneurial public and private companies with their tax consulting and compliance needs. He has assisted a variety of clients with:

  • Corporate reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, liquidations, public offerings, debt financing and restructuring, venture financing and other financing arrangements
  • Equity-based compensation planning, including devising employee stock option plans and planning for founding and employee shareholders
  • Implementing tax-efficient corporate structures to facilitate global expansion
  • Transactions involving intellectual property such as transfers, dispositions, migrations and acquisitions
  • Managing compliance requirements including foreign reporting and scientific research and experimental development claims

Recently, Ian led an engagement where PwC was a tax advisor for a publicly listed ‘cleantech’ client undergoing a ‘reverse take over’ transaction. This involved working closely with post-transaction senior management and legal teams to resolve various tax issues, including shareholder, transactional, structural and integration matters.

Ian joined PwC in 1995. He has a BComm from Vancouver’s Sauder School of Business and obtained his CA designation in 1999. He has authored, lectured and presented articles, papers and reports on various taxation and industry related topics, including for the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC.

In his spare time, Ian is an avid soccer player and coach, and is the treasurer on the BC Transplant Research Foundation’s executive committee. He is also a member of the Taxation Professional Advisory Committee for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC, a former group study facilitator for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountant’s In-depth Tax Program and a former steering committee member of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Young Tax Practitioner's Group.
