Let’s unleash the full potential of our nation-building investments

Advancing Canada’s major projects

Major projects are central to Canada’s next era of economic growth. They attract investment, strengthen national competitiveness, and build the infrastructure needed for our long-term prosperity. At PwC Canada, we help organizations navigate complexity across the project lifecycle and turn ambitions into lasting value.

The forces shaping Canada’s major projects

Canada is in an era of nation-building—an infrastructure supercycle. Governments, Indigenous communities, investors, and industry leaders are developing major projects that will shape Canada’s economic trajectory for decades to come. Transportation corridors. Energy infrastructure. Critical minerals development. Advanced manufacturing facilities. Canada’s pipeline of major projects is substantial. Hundreds of large-scale projects are planned or under construction across the energy, mining, transportation, and clean technology sectors. Just how large is the opportunity? PwC recently projected that Canada will need US$4.7 trillion in infrastructure investments by 2050.

That scale of investment can deliver broader economic and social benefits. Structured right, major projects can:

  • Attract global and domestic capital into Canada by offering long-term investment opportunities.
  • Support trade diversification by expanding the transportation, logistics, and export infrastructure that connect Canadian goods to global markets.
  • Empower communities by creating jobs, developing workforce skills, advancing Indigenous partnerships, and growing regional economies.
  • Strengthen national security, particularly in the Arctic, by building critical infrastructure, bolstering supply chain resilience, and asserting Canadian sovereignty in strategically important regions.
  • Power the energy transition with infrastructure for clean electricity, low-carbon fuels, critical minerals, and breakthrough energy technologies.
  • Boost productivity by reducing bottlenecks, enhancing economic efficiency, and providing infrastructure that helps businesses grow and compete globally.

Successfully delivering major projects is now one of Canada’s most important economic imperatives. Effective planning, financing, governance, stakeholder engagement, regulatory execution, workforce development, and risk management help organizations generate measurable returns and deliver projects on schedule. Companies that bring these capabilities together can create lasting value and contribute to Canada’s next generation of nation-building investments.

The shift to integrated infrastructure

Major projects are now planned as integrated systems. They connect transportation, energy, digital networks, natural resources, supply chains, and communities. As these domains converge, value shifts beyond individual assets to interconnected ecosystems. The result? New opportunities for governments, investors, Indigenous communities, and industry to collaborate across traditional sector boundaries and overcome shared constraints. Together, we can create new sources of productivity, resilience, and long-term growth.

The central role of Indigenous partnerships to project success

Engaging Indigenous communities as full economic partners will help Canada achieve its major project ambitions. Partnerships built on trust are the foundation. They enable successful execution and create lasting benefits for communities. Many of Canada’s major projects are pursuing partnership models that include revenue sharing, expanded procurement participation, and equity ownership to create shared value.

Explore Canada’s major projects

We developed a project map to create a centralized source of information on major projects across Canada. It provides a clear view of Canada’s major projects—their status, progress, and interconnections. It shows the link between individual projects and broader strategic initiatives and priorities.

The project map is not exhaustive and is not continually updated. Map presents projects referred to the Major Projects office and a selection of other major energy and natural resources projects in Canada. Selection is based on Natural Resources Canada’s Major Projects Inventory, excluding those with future capex below $3b, and those that are on hold or suspended. Capex values are based on estimates available as of the time of research. Content is updated as of September 2026.
