Frequently asked questions

Note: These FAQs were updated on 28 February 2020 in light of the amended Terms and Conditions.

Who can join the challenge?
Any Malaysian undergraduate student currently studying in a university/college (‘Higher Education Institution’) in the United Kingdom.

How many people are allowed in a team?
There must be exactly five (5) members in a team. They can be from different universities/colleges and studying different courses.
Note: The requirement to have all five members be from the same university/college was removed on 10 February 2020.

Do I have to pay to join the challenge?
No, the Challenge is free to join.

Can Finalists from the last Trust Builders Challenge enter?
Yes.

What if the student will graduate between the submission date and the Finals? Can they still enter?
No. The student must remain an undergraduate studying in a UK Higher Education Institution throughout the period of the Challenge.

How do I submit my entry?
Submit online here.

What do I need to have ready before I submit?

  • The full name, contact number, email address, university, and course of study of each team member

  • The answer to ALL the questions

  • You must also confirm that you have read and understood the Terms and Conditions of the Challenge

When do submissions close?
The submission deadline is 9 March, 2020.

Can I save my submission half way through, and come back to it?
No.

Can I amend my submission once I have submitted?
Yes. You may edit your submission until 11:59PM (GMT) on 9 March, 2020.

How will I know if my submission has gone through?
You should see the last page of the form that says “Your response has been submitted!”

When will I know if our team is qualified for the Finals?
We will contact the five (5) Finalist teams by email on 13 March, 2020. We will also announce the finalists on our social media platforms on the same day.

Can our team submit more than once?
No. Each team can only send in one (1) submission, and each participant can only be on one (1) team. 

Are there any limits to the number of students participating from a specific university or college?
No, there is not.

How many teams will proceed to the Finals?
Five (5) teams will proceed to the Finals. 

When will the finalists be announced?
Finalists will be announced on 13 March, 2020.

Will the finalist teams be assigned any mentors?
No, finalist teams will not be assigned any mentors this year. But you are free to seek advice/mentoring as you see fit.

Can we replace a team member from the one on our submission form?
Yes. Details of the new team member must be forwarded to us by Thursday, 19 March 2020.

Video submissions

How long should our video submission be?
The video should be 5 to 7 minutes long. Teams will be disqualified if the length of their video falls outside of this duration.

What criteria will the Finals video submissions be judged upon?
Finals guidelines will be shared with the finalist teams via email in due course. We will also publish the guidelines on the Trust Builders webpage when they become available.

Any guidelines on the creative direction of the video?
No. Teams have full creative control over their video as long as they cover the required sections outlined in the Finals guidelines. All team members are strongly encouraged to play a role in telling the story / presenting their proposed solution in the video.

How do we submit our videos?
Finalists teams will be provided with a submission link via email. The file size must not exceed 10GB.

Are we allowed to publish our videos on social media?
Yes. However video engagements do not form part of the evaluation criteria.

How much would video presentation affect our chances of winning?
Video presentation accounts for 15% of your team’s total score. This takes into account, among other things, creativity in your delivery.

Can we change our video after we have completed the submission process?
Teams are only allowed one (1) video submission with no amendments.
