Leroy Dougherty

Leroy Dougherty is a Partner within PwC’s National SR&ED tax team and leads the SR&ED practice in the Greater Toronto Area. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Ryerson University.

Leroy has more than twenty years of experience in IT consulting and software development in various industries including telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, financial institutes, manufacturing, and high-tech development firms. He specialized in the design and development of large-scale, integrated systems, custom application development, IT infrastructure architectures, process controls, and security throughout the enterprise. Leroy's varied work experience also includes the design and development of new electronic devices as well as custom motorcycle builds. Leroy also has experience in the preparation of technology validations and valuations for venture capitalists.

Leroy’s first experiences with the SR&ED program came as a co-founder and technical architect within a successful consulting and software development company. This experience gained as a claimant has proven invaluable in recent years as he moved from SR&ED claimant to SR&ED practitioner. He has 15 years SR&ED experience; nine as a SR&ED tax credit consultant. His SR&ED consulting experience includes providing technical guidance on determining eligibility, claim structuring, preparation, and claim defence. He also has direct experience in preparing claims involving classified military projects, as well as projects that fall under the Controlled Goods Regulations. His recent focus includes assisting claimants with process improvements in order to help them naturally produce the required contemporaneous supporting evidence needed for a successful claim experience.
