Eric Paton is a partner in the Tax Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP working in the Toronto office. He is part of the firm's Indirect Tax and Climate Change Services teams. He serves clients in the technology, retail, telecommunications, utilities and mining sectors.
Eric helps clients across Canada and the globe with a full range of indirect tax matters, including:
His practice focuses on a range of indirect taxes and fees, including goods and services tax (GST), provincial sales tax, land transfer tax, environmental fees, carbon taxes, fuel taxes and excise taxes and duties. Eric also provides advice and assistance regarding mergers and acquisitions, supply chain structures and outsourcing.
Eric has a BA from Ottawa's Carleton University. Before joining PwC in 1998, he worked as a senior interpretation officer with the Canada Revenue Agency for approximately eight years and provided GST application training, rulings and interpretation.
Eric has spoken on indirect tax matters at many events and has authored numerous papers and articles for the CICA, Canadian Tax Foundation and other organizations. He is also a member of the Toronto Commodity Tax Study Group. In his spare time, he coaches a kids' league soccer team.
