Michael is a partner of PwC Law LLP.

Michael provides clients with transactional and advisory support in all areas of corporate activity, with a focus on domestic and cross-border public company acquisitions and divisive reorganizations. Michael is a widely recognized expert in the financing and taxation of mining operations, and counsels both taxpayers and governments on legislative and tax policy matters relating to the mining industry.

Michael has extensive experience in handling tax controversy issues, including transfer pricing, competent authority and natural resource taxation matters. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, Tax Court of Canada, the superior courts of British Columbia and Ontario, and the Revenue Tribunal of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Michael has been accepted as an expert witness on international and natural resource taxation matters in arbitration proceedings under NAFTA and several investment protection treaties. He is a frequent writer and speaker on income and natural resource taxation matters. Michael is a former Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation.

Prior to joining PwC he was a member of Canada’s largest taxation law firm for over 25 years.

Michael is a member of Law Society of British Columbia and Law Society of Ontario.
