Martin Bernier

Martin Bernier is a partner in the Assurance group at PwC Canada's Montréal office. He also leads the Montréal office's corporate directors and alumni programs.

Martin has more than 25 years of experience in the areas of accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, finance and governance. In addition to leading the Assurance group in Quebec for a five-year term, he co-headed the firm's Consumer Industrial Products & Services (CIPS) practice in Quebec for several years.

Martin is in charge of the audits of listed companies in Canada and the US, in addition to various private companies. He has extensive accountability experience, in particular with IPOs and other types of prospectus in Canada and the US, as well as opinions issued under Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Above all, he has worked in settings in which accounting topics were complex and information systems played a crucial role.

Martin is involved in the community, in particular as part of the global initiative "He for She", in which he uses his mentoring skills to further the careers of women in business. He also runs training activities geared towards corporate directors: over the past few years, he has organized some 15 panels of experienced directors for conferences organized by the Institute of Corporate Directors (Quebec chapter) and for PwC. He serves on the boards of the ICD (Quebec chapter) and the St. Lawrence economic development society (Société de développement économique du Saint-Laurent/SODES). He was a member of 24h Tremblant's executive committee for three years and was treasurer for five years of Le Boulot vers..., a Montréal-based non-profit organization focusing on social and professional reinsertion in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

In 1991, Martin was awarded a bachelor's degree in business administration by HEC Montréal. In 1993, he received the chartered accountant designation. In 2012, he was presented with the CA Emeritus award by the Montérégie CAs. In 2018, he received the prestigious title of Fellow for his contributions to the accounting profession.
