PwC Ukraine, with the support of the innovation cluster Brave1, hosted a business breakfast in Lviv titled “Fog of war: realities of doing defence business in Ukraine.” The event brought together investors, international companies, government representatives, and industry leaders to discuss the realities and opportunities of Ukraine’s defence sector.
Opening the event, Oleksiy Katasonov, Partner and Leader of Defence practice at PwC Ukraine, underlined the strategic importance of turning Ukraine’s resilience into long-term investment opportunities:
“Ukraine continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience on the battlefield, serving as a real-world environment for the deployment and validation of advanced technologies. Today, our key mission is to turn this resilience into sustainable strategies — through innovation, international partnerships, and investments aligned with Ukraine’s strategic priorities, scale and speed are as important as ever now,”
Valeriya Ionan, Advisor to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine on Innovations, Digitalisation and Global Partnerships, in her welcome speech highlighted Ukraine’s potential to take its place among the world’s leaders in digital innovation:
«Ukraine is building the world’s first truly digital state — and now we are moving to the next stage: the Agent State. We became the first country to launch digital passports fully equal to paper or plastic, one of the fastest online business registrations, and even online marriage — recognized by TIME magazine. In just six years, Ukraine climbed 97 positions to rank 5th globally for digital public services and 1st for e-Participation. By 2030, our goal is to be among the top 3 countries in AI. Through the Ukrainian Global Innovation Strategy — WINWIN, we will scale breakthroughs across govtech, edtech, medtech, and biotech and other sectors — creating shared value for citizens, business, and the state, and making Ukraine one of the global leaders of innovation»,
During the event, leading experts from the defence sector and public institutions discussed a number of key issues, including:
Defence procurement — legal regulation, ensuring transparency, and harmonisation with NATO standards;
Battlefield validation of technologies in Ukraine under the Test in Ukraine initiative, implemented with the support of Brave1;
International cooperation — prospects for establishing joint ventures and developing partnerships with multinational companies.
The event reaffirmed Ukraine’s position not only as a frontline defender of freedom but also as a dynamic hub for defence innovation, where government, business, allies and partners co-create sustainable solutions for security and resilience.
PwC Ukraine sincerely thanks all participants and speakers (тегнути) for their valuable insights and contributions. Your expertise and engagement are helping shape the future of Ukraine’s defence and innovation ecosystem.
