Career growth with work-life balance and the benefits of the consulting business

PwC’s financial shared service centre (SSC) has more than 100 employees and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2018. It serves our offices in 30 countries, mainly in the CEE region.

What do employees working in PwC’s SSC learn and how can they work in a technology-enabled company?

A basic career step in finance is to learn international accounting, so our employees take the FIA course (Foundations in Accountancy) at the PwC Academy and PwC personal development courses. Currently, our headcount is over 100 employees and we have a friendly and tightly-knit working environment - we work in small teams and everyone knows each other well. PwC is a technology-enabled company implementing new technologies into our daily work. Thanks to our modern systems/platforms, our employees can work on a flexitime basis and from home, so our employees can balance career growth with their private lives.

What do you consider to be the most important aspect of this job?

Our key values are communication, the customer and continuous improvement, and I support all our colleagues by following a set of principles. We communicate intensively and openly with each other in order to build trust within the team and with customers and to find new ideas for improving our processes. We challenge our people to grow professionally via courses and by driving individual projects. SSC provides 12 processes to our internal clients and if my colleagues fully understand one of them, they can then rotate within teams, so in a short time they can gain a complex overview. This is continuous improvement - we progress and work more efficiently as SSC and as individuals.

What services does PwC’s SSC offer?

At SSC Bratislava, we process over half a million transactions and tickets per year in three main areas - finance and accounting, customer management and risk management.

‘Over four years, our employees can rotate in teams and pass through 4 complex processes from 12 options, take the FIA course, obtain a certificate and become a team leader, or a subject matter expert in an area that suits them best.’

Mária Jančovičová PwC’s SSC Leader

What do you mean by complex processes?

Thanks to the relatively small size of SSC, our employees can work with complex processes from the beginning to the end and gain a better understanding of the area as a whole and grow faster professionally, instead of just working with small pieces of the mosaic without seeing the whole picture.
