COVID-19: Wage Supplement for July to September 2020: New NACE Code lists

06 July 2020

Malta Enterprise Corporation has issued a revised list of NACE code categories for the purposes of the COVID Wage Supplement applicable from July to September.

The revised wage supplement mechanism for the coming three months forms part of the economic stimulus package announced on the 8 June 2020 by the Prime Minister, the Minister for Finance and Financial Services and the Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses to help regenerate the Maltese economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The amount of wage supplement varies depending on the category under which the beneficiary falls (Annex A, Annex B or Annex C) with Annex A sectors, being sectors that are directly dependent on the tourism sector (accommodation, travel agencies, language schools, event organisation and air transport) continuing to receive the highest amount of wage supplement.

The main revisions to NACE codes broadly involve sectors previously falling under Annex A or Annex B, other than those mentioned in the previous paragraph, being shifted to Annex B or Annex C  and consequently qualifying for reduced amounts of wage supplement.

Furthermore, pensioners and students who on 9 March 2020 were registered with JobsPlus as employed and who were previously considered as ineligible for the wage supplement, may now also be considered and included for such aid. Employers will have the possibility of including these individuals via a specific link in the update email that Malta Enterprise will send to beneficiaries in July.

Current beneficiaries of the wage supplement will not need to re-apply but their first application should remain valid and any applicable changes in the applicable Annex that is relevant for the supplement due for July to September will be applied automatically by Malta Enterprise.
