Embracing ESG

Chris joined the Malta firm’s Assurance practice in 2008, having also been seconded to PwC Sydney. He has been involved on the audits of a number of clients operating predominantly in the insurance sector. He was admitted into the firm’s partnership in 2021 as an Assurance partner.

His client portfolio has included a number of local and foreign, life and non-life principals as well as captive (re)insurance companies having been involved in a number of audit and non-audit assignments.

Chris has been actively involved in the run up to IFRS17, having delivered training to our clients and staff as well as other non-audit assignments relating to the impact of the standard, including the delivery of a number of client-specific, gap assessment workshops to Maltese-registered insurers. To further his understanding of IFRS 17 developments, Chris participates in training and PwC network-wide calls hosted by global PwC IFRS 17 technical specialists.

Claudine is the Director of PwC Malta’s consultancy practice and has 20 years of consulting experience across the public and private sector. In her role, Claudine also leads the sustainability consulting practice, having led a number of ESG related projects locally and having vast subject-matter experience in the area. She is also a change management expert, with significant experience in supporting public and private sector clients in implementing and communicating change programmes. She is a trainer and coach within PwC Malta’s Academy and is a design thinking expert.

Carl is a Manager within PwC Malta’s advisory line of service. After attaining a masters degree in accountancy, Carl joined the consulting practice in 2016 and is now leading and assisting on ESG projects related to strategy, measurement and reporting. Within this area, Carl is one of the firm’s local subject matter experts on sustainability, having experience with providing assurance on sustainability information and assisting various organisations with the compilation of their non-financial information. In addition, Carl is leading PwC Malta's net zero ambitions and is managing the data and reporting process to achieve net zero by 2030 in line with science-based targets.

Ms Baldacchino joined the Malta International Airport (MIA) in 2012 as a Research Analyst and has most recently, occupied the role of Head of Sustainability and Analytics. She is leading MIA efforts to implement further data-driven improvements whilst retaining responsibility for the setting of environmental targets in relation to climate, waste and water management. 

Ms Baldacchino manages the airport’s progression in the Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme and is also a Member of the company’s Corporate Responsibility Committee. She further established MIA’s Environmental Working Group in 2021.

Nick, an accountant by profession has a wealth of experience spanning various industries. Following his years working in the accounting industry, the manufacturing sector, and as CFO of Air Malta, Nick was appointed CFO of Toly Products in 2014; a global supplier of high end packaging to the cosmetics industry. Furthermore, in 2015 was elected to represent Toly as a council member of the Malta Chamber and today occupies the post of Deputy President at The Malta Chamber.

Toly’s commitment to sustainability stands out - beyond regulatory requirements, Toly has proactively taken great strides in the area of sustainability, evidencing their understanding of the urgency with which companies need to act. Their commitment to sustainability reporting, as well as their drive to improve their ESG impacts is commendable.
