Malta Annual Review 2020

Neville Gatt Head of Tax

“COVID-19 affected all markets, organisations, and individuals this year. A critical element of our response has been providing real-time insight on how to access the reliefs and incentives needed to sustain businesses and livelihoods. One area we’ve led clients through is concerns about eligibility, compliance, and practicalities, such as the COVID Wage Supplement."

Highlights of the year

This year we’ve continued to strengthen and develop our tax practice in line with the economic and fiscal developments happening both locally and internationally, and also in line with our clients’ needs.

Hundreds of people attended our free webinars, seeking our expertise on topics including virtual working, employer obligations and available aid. Our multi-competencies and the investment we continue to make to diversify and adopt new skills were key in being able to support our clients in a holistic manner particularly during the recent challenging times.

The above could not have been possible so effectively without the use of technology.  Indeed, during the last twelve months we continued to invest heavily in the use of technology both to enhance all aspects of our service offerings but also to ensure that our people unlock efficiencies and achieve tax function transformation.

Spotlight on our people

Our Tax practice brings together over 180 experts and support staff in tax services, legal, regulatory, compliance and company administration services to serve a diverse range of local and international clients.

Whilst technology and innovation remain critical, our people remain our greatest asset.  We have therefore also continued to invest heavily in technical training to help our people to keep abreast of the numerous developments particularly in the tax and regulatory fields.
